I have a clock in my charger and was planning on getting a tic-toc tac, just wanted to get a few opinions on likes/dislikes on the tac? Is it ergonomic? or a pain to read while you are driving?
Has anyone install the one in the link below, looks easier to read.

WHITE AND RED 69

I put that one in mine (made mine white though) to replace my clock and have been very happy with it. Not a single problem with it so far. It was very easy to install. the only thing I dont like about it is it sits further back than the speedo, it doesnt effect how well you can read it. I just wanted them to seem flush.

There is also this one that is slightly different but a bit more expensive?

I like my tic toc tac.   :yesnod:  It may not read as accurately as a newer unit but it is specific to the car. Here is vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Riz4A2gWw_I of the tach as I was adjusting the return force on the needle. It is not difficult to read while cruising but may be if you are quickly looking for shift points.

I'm also planning to get a tach soon, and am glad to see people liking theirs.  Initially I was considering one from Auto Meter but I will probably get this one from Charger Specialties: http://chargerspecialties.com/

I have never had one...I got the clock only in mine...and it still works

Here's an old post I made, that was directed at the idea of making the tach more visible.  Outside of the post, I had a couple people also mention running just the tac and not the tic-toc-tac for better visibility.  I did have mine reconfigured, as the photoshop'd pic from the link shows, half and half.  It is not in the car yet, so we'll see.  I suspect that I may end up changing it to all black.  The link doesn't really answer your question, as it was more about doing the color combo.  Just saying that I thought it could be an issue too.

Great thread, I'm looking to replace the clock in my charger with a Tic Toc Tach as well.

Will the factory repro tach harnesses make for an easy painless installation?

tan top

just the tack looks  good , but i went for a tictock tach from charger specialties along with a factory apperaing harness !!
Feel free to post any relevant picture you think we all might like to see in the threads below!

No TicToc tac for me..too much money...Rather run AutoMeter. more acurate, works with MSD, and cheaper to boot.

That's the tach I'm after, the CS Tic Toc Tach and the Evans wiring tach harness.

Autometer gauges are nice but not for a stock or authentic interior. Will the CS tach drop straight into a non tach optioned car without modification? My car has Mopar electronic ignition, apparently the new CS tachs work with electronic ignition.

Yes, the tach will fit with no mods.  Mine is a CS unit that is 2 yrs old and was wired to an MSD.  You can wire it direct with no issues or get one of the available harness add-ons, to be more factory appearing.

I just had an original updated by Instrument specilties and I love it. It reads nice and also works with my MSD.

Is it possible to get a tic toc tach with modern internals? Not talking about just the circuit board - a completely new tach with just the tic toc tach look. The problem on these old tachs is not only the electronics but the mechanics too! the magnetized spool doesn't allow fast accurate movements.

BananaDan

Yes, my entire cluster is in the hands of Instrument Specialties as we speak getting redone.  They redo all gauge internals and recalibrate them as well as do the resto of the gauges appearance wise.  They don't use stickers, they silkscreen new faces on.  They also modify tachs for EI, which they are doing for me, convert the clock in the tic toc tach to quartz movement and they test/repair/rebuild/rechrome all switches.

I can't wait.  They just called about an hour ago, they have it and are starting to bench test it and I should have the cost estimate Mon-Tue of next week.    :icon_smile_big:

I'm re-thinking Auto Meter.  Can anyone suggest a specific Auto Meter tach that can be mounted in the cluster and not look totally out of place with the stock gauges?  (Particularly with the lights on.)  I'm not concerned with being original but I'd prefer one that won't stick out like a sore thumb.

I have found that most topics have come up in some manner or another, prior to me being here.  The search function will help you find them.

Good thread on doing aftermarket gauges.

Dan,
Can you please let us know the estimate if you don't mind and the work performed. A couple of my gauges got wiped out a little while ago and need to be repaired/replaced. I'd rather keep the originals if I can, so I was thinking of sending it off to get repaired.

No problem, but they did say the estimate is completely based on what needs to be done, they gave me a range over the phone of $800-$1200 based on what I told them of the condition of my gauges (most were broken or screwed up in one way or another).  I imagine that phone estimate is on the high-end, worst case scenario side of cost.  You ship to them, they cover return shipping, and if you choose to not have them do the work they don't charge for the evaluation and estimate/bench test.

Member Topher (aka Christopher) has a Mopar buddy Danny Gemza that rebuilds these gauges. He did mine. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,67620.0.html

I'm with Dan on this one... I like to keep to original and really like my tic toc tac.  It may not be as accurate or responsive as other aftermarket tachs, and may not be as easy to see for shifting, but it is a pretty unique feature of our cars.  And I'm not tickling the redline or dragging my car, so for me, it's tic toc tac all the way.    :yesnod:

Some aftermarket ignition systems cause original tic toc tacs to produce inaccurate readings, so that's also a consideration... it depends on what you want out of your car.  If you're not an original freak like me or you like matting the peddle to the floor and have a good chunk of $$$ in your engine, then you may want to go with an aftermarket tach that gives you more visibility and accuracy...   :2thumbs:

I like originality or as close to it as physically possible, especially when it comes to the interior (although my car has some engine work). As my car is a 4 speed the only thing I'd consider in conjunction with the Tic Toc Tac as a possible ad on would be a rev limiter for extra assurance when that occasional butterfly opener gets the better of you  :yesnod:

Ghoste

It isn't an ideal tach for racing but it is a cool part of the Charger persona and I love them in there myself. :Twocents:
