I pulled an idiot move a few months ago and sat in my drivers seat with a screwdriver in my back pocket.  :brickwall:  Ripped a 1-inch long gash in the side of the seatback. As I didn't see any good info on repairing my torn seat after a search here, what would you recommend? A global search on this topic does not reveal any surefire fixes. Perhaps an upholstery shop? Thanks.

I think a DIY would be fine for a cracked dash but a seat thats constantly used might not hold up well. Personally, id go to a good upholstery shop and get an opinion.

BTW, the screwdriver had to go one of two ways but im not sure which way would have been best in this case

Well, there are repairs and then there are repairs. :P What I mean is, most vinyl seat repairs I've seen are obvious. As in, sticks out like a sore thumb obvious. But then those were pretty much all the do-it-yourself type of deal. If I were you I'd do like FLG said take it to an upholstery shop and have them look at it. I work with a guy who does auto upholstery projects on the side and he was able to make a near flawless repair to a leather seat that was torn by a... wait for it... screwdriver. :nana:

think taking it to a upholestory shop is the better plan  ,  they will / can replace that section which is ripped  :yesnod:

I'd take it to an upholstery shop as well. I tell ya, screwdrivers and wrenchs in back pockets have brought many a man to ballastic anger. I'm so paranoid I put every tool back the moment I'm done with it. This fear was instilled in me by the wifal unit whose leather arm chair became a victim of such a tool. Women are just scary anyway.
