66 Charger with a 67 engine

Hi,
Just found this forum. I have bought (today) a 1966 Charger that has a 67 440 ci engine
in it. Apparently the metal moulding was a problem as well, because it also has 67
turn indicators at the end of the hood. At first I thought the guy was trying to sell a 67, but reading the door frame plate confirmed it is a 66. As this is my first classic car, I'm just so happy I found a Charger that I can afford.
Living in Canada (outside Montreal) I'm just waiting for the snow to melt to get her out on the road. Not wanting to offend any purists, but what do you guys think of what seems to be a mix and match 66 Charger?

The 1967 model year started in 1966. If it is like later years, the 1967 model year ran from August 1966 to the end of July 1967.

Welcome Jim!  Great people here with a wealth of knowlage of all things, Mopars included...  
none will notice it's got a '67 trim on front save maybe a fellow first Generation owner... and the 440 is a better engine after all... win win I say, as I prefer a '66 interior to a '67's but would rather have the '67 turn indicators on the front corners and the magnum engine. Score!

...and I have a 67.  I'm sure one of us can come up with an answer.
As far as mix and match, Brock is correct.  Other than first gen guys, 99% of the people who look at it will not even realize.
Have fun with it and hopefully we'll see each other at a show eventually.  Moparfest or our show (CNYMopar.com) which is even closer for you at the end of June.  Get out and drive it!   Good luck.

true..but yours is an early car if I remember....the original post was that he had a 66 Charger with a 67 440 engine....440 was not offered in the 66 Chargers...only 67 & up

Understood. Someone down the line must have taken out the original engine (should have been a 383 according to the door plate) and dropped in this engine. There is also a small gap between the trim with the turn indicators and the rest of the trim/moulding down the front fender. In any case, I'm just up on cloud 9 for finally owning one (just ask my wife and kids!!!)

Welcome to the site.

Mine is a 67 with a 69 block.

440 engine swaps are pretty comon and should not affect the value of the car if that is what you are worried about.
The turn signals on the front fendors are a nice touch, very few people will know they are not correct for a 66. Do they work?

Hard to tell but it looks as if the color isn't a 66 or 67 color ... so I wouldn't worry about "original" at this point.  It's a greta looking car.
As far as the fron trim, the fender tip and piece behind are different 66 to 67.  They probably tried to use a 66 piece.  Won't work, even if you cut the angle, it is still short.
As far as the medalion ...  ...  don't go there!

Yeah, mine's a '66 dated 440, probably from a New Yorker or Imperial.

Thanks for all the replies. As I mentioned, I only bought it yesterday, and it will remain in storage until all the snow is gone up here. I don't see myself driving it for another month or so. The anticipation is killing me. I envy those of you who can drive all year round. Anyone else here from Canada? I have spoken to the seller to clear up a few points. He owned it for 8 years and it had the 440 when he bought it as well as the turn indicators. He says he can't tell me any more than that. I'm not concerned about it at all. I think it's just such a cool ride!! As far as the paint colour goes, I was not able to find this colour as being an original paint choice, so I asked him about it. He called it 1994 Ford Ranger blue. He saw this colour on a ford truck and liked it so much he used it for the Charger!!! Without opening a can of worms, what's this about the front grille medallion?? Thanks

Ha ha, that can has been opened and most of the worms escaped!! Seriously, it's kind of a (mostly  ) friendly debate among the 1st gen guys about what color the front medallion was when these cars left the factory. Red or gold. Some say they were originally red and faded to gold in time as some are red, some are orangish gold and some are full gold. Some say they were gold to begin with...you get the idea. So, what color is yours?
