hi guys!i was just wondering if you guys ever checked the top speed of your car!im sure you did and so what was your top speed?i know the speed limit is 70mph but....:)Veronika

greenpigs

I am just thankful it moves let alone what it tops out at. With 4.10 gears 110 MPH would be pushing it & I would punk out before that most likely.

only had mine up to about 90mph on the Highway (28 tall rear tire and 3.55's) it had much more left but we don't have the long roads they have over in the States plus, you can only go so fast before 1. you run out of road or run into Traffic or 2. get busted
For speeding. The 1/4 mile is the place to really put your foot down IMO.

Road Dog

Years ago I did an indicated 145 mph on the speedo and it had lots left. The engine builder told me the car would probably top at 165 mph.
If your wheels ain't spinn'n you ain't got no traction.

Had my Z06 up to 145 once for a quick blast, but the Charger's never been more than 80.... Yet... It'll go a bit more than that this  year when it hits the track.

The speed limit here is 65 ...... thats it *looks around for cops*

In an old car with stock suspension, there's only about 10 LBs on each wheel holding the damn thing on the road @100 Plus speeds...Go ahead and try it...No offense Veronicka, but that crotch rocket your sitting on? The drivers are typically called "Organ Donors" here, for a reason..Top speed? Don't know, and too smart to try and find out..

I had a real reason to open mine up when a fellow trooper got in a bad way and requested assistance.  I live in a 3,000 square mile county with one town in it, and we have over 70 miles of rural interstate that runs through the middle.  Backup is often a long ways off.  It buried the speedometer (150 MPH Rally which was checked for accuracy) before I had to start shutting it back down.

It has a 440 punched out .030 over with a balanced lower assembly, oversize brakes, and some suspension work running a 727 and a 2.76 Sure Grip.  It was just as stable had high speeds as any patrol unit I ever had, inlcuding a 2002 LS1 Camaro.  I am retired now, but the car is still known among the area troopers by the name it earned those years ago:

    "The Beast".

170mph. That was in a sanctioned, legal event on a public highway. Combo is 383 +.30, A833 overdrive, and 3.23 gears.

Never got much over 110, maybe 112 but the front gets so floaty i don't really need to go cartwheeling off the road...
But i question your criteria,.. there's fast as in top end speed, and there's quick as in 0-60 acceleration..
It's a question of areodynamics and gearing mostly for top speed... and again gearing and torque for that pin you back in the seat sudden brutal accerleration, two different things in my mind, a kick ass car will have both... I like my car because getting on the freeway it skedaddles from say 30 MPH to 80 in a few seconds, that's what it likes to do, it always seems to thank me for that...  :shruggy:

Plenty fast enough to get me in trouble.

Owning a classic muscle car is not about driving it faster than 100mph but it's all about getting at that speed as fast as you can. :D

141 mph on a old runway, but if it where longer it would be higher. But at that speed it got really scary at the end

I've done a handful of blasts up to about 120 or so and the speedo is close to what the GPS says.  The car seemed stable enough and with a 3.23 and 26.6" tires, the RPM's were probably cresting 5K by then.  (Got to get a tach this summer.)

Mrs.Caveman

thanks guys!i know they are not for 150+mph!i was just curious!i prefer the quick accelaration then fast driving with them!hell im just happy to hear the engine the looks and cruise at30!organ donors,i had my share of accident but was lucky to walk away with broken fingers!my top speed was 260km/h on my gsx-r 600k5!its crazy i know but sometimes have to just put your foot down!dont think it can be scarier in the charger!but i would never rev her too much my ,would never hurt her,was waiting for her way too long!thanks guys,Veronika

G-man

Not fast enough. When i can get it to 200mph, then it will be ok.

Mrs.Caveman

guess since they used them in nascar with proper engine combo, brakes and suspension they could be fast!does anyone know what tire size they used in nascar for them?thanks,Veronika

Your right, it seems they really do fly.  I remember a first hand account from a couple of Dodge salesman who took one out on an unopened intersate.  They said the steering wheel became nearly irrelevant and had they hit a squirrel they were finished.
