MOPARTS, what do you think of it?

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I have a lot of friends on Moparts...as well as here of course. The Mod that got whacked is a great guy and i know him personally. He was the voice of reason and did a great job on the race forum  :2thumbs: Big mistake giving Mike the boot, inmo  :Twocents:

As for the new "policy" regarding signature lines ; i find that rediculous. If some engine builder wants to state that he is a dealer for Indy/Edelbrock/Holley or whatever i see no problem. This is a small pittance for the tech info that these guys willingly share.

I posted my feelings on the op-ed thread started by Dan (Performance Only) and of course it got locked after several pages. This move will ultimately end up hurting the quality of tech because those guys will end up leaving and no longer share the information that is priceless.  :P

Moparts took a HUGE step in the wrong direction.

Hey Ron

How about getting Mike to stop in here from time to time? He would be great to have here as he knows his stuff and I have seen him help MANY people till they get the answer needed.

Troy can give him a shirt.

I am a member on there (since late 1999-early 2000), but I use that term loosely anymore.  A few years ago, I tried to get some discussions going on in everyday topics that affect all of us (environmental, economic, etc. before the ban was placed on them) as a means to see how people there think as a collective whole. :scratchchin:  The responses from some of the members was less than what I hoped for: disappointing to say the least. :-\  Even got a few threats from the less evolved ones who felt threatened by my information on said subjects at hand. :brickwall:  So, I changed my perspective on this and typically don't start topics anymore on there, but will occasionally reply to them.  But, whenever I post information on a topic there, it gets the "kiss of death" (no further posts) and drops out of sight quicker than a submarine in the ocean.  It is almost funny to watch this happen again and again and again. :slap:...

Yeah, I suppose political and religious discussions can be done on political and religious forums...

I registered there in late 2004, and in that time have all of 397 posts. Certainly had my run ins with their resident trolls and troublemakers, so I tend to lurk there more than post. Too many keyboard cowboys there ready to stir up a big pi$$ing contest at the drop of a hat. I have also met several great guys there, Tom himself included, and try to do as many of their New England get togethers as I can, because it's always a good time. Several of them are not members here, either. Still a lot of valuable tech info to be found there as well, which is why I do still lurk there quite a bit.

Yeah, I suppose political and religious discussions can be done on political and religious forums...

The funny thing is that most of the topics that I posted about were neither of those, but became that way due to the postings of other members on that site.  Case in point: I posted data on heavy metal contamination in certain painted items being shipped over here from other countries as a warning to those who use those items.  Very quickly, it became politically charged, even when I was basically giving a heads up on the situation and what that can do to people who get exposed to it.....

Moparts is too busy in several forums, especially the general forum, but I visit mostly for the classifieds. I've never had any trouble with selling on that site & it's much, much better than ebay. The tech section is also good for a quick reply because of the volume of people, but DC.com is still the best place to hang out.

By the way, this topic has come up before.

I refuse to go there...      to be honest - there are good guys there but even back when i registered (2003-4) there were issues...      My views seemed to clash with quite a few people there...    seems like you either need to have big $$$ to get your name out there and get any semblance of respect...    anyway - seems that the general masses seem to be there for the wrong reasons...

This site is a lot more lax and privately owned so the money and advertising isn't a big issue...

HE was the resident A-Hole.... who, by the way, I heard has since been banned... big surprise there. He now hangs out at FABO, still the same name (and ego, I'm sure). Talk about a place that's nasty- I didn't last long there. He fits right in, I'm sure! ::)

Yesterday, I saw a topic on Moparts about someone who was ripped off by a guy in New York Sate. I decided to read it since I'm in NY, & wondered if I knew the thief, or at least wanted to learn about him & avoid him. The original poster doesn't have the best typing or grammar skills, but you can still read it & understand it enough to get his point.

But......

The people on Moparts decided that grammar & spelling will be the new point that has to be made in the topic, not the fact that someone was ripped off. It became a bitchfest with the grammar police clubbing the guy like they were the LA cops & he was Rodney King.

Would it be an issue if somebody came on this forum and posted in cryptic Arabic? Trying to decipher the meaning in a post like that one is like trying to read Arabic. Gives new meaning to "the dumbing down of America".
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
