My neighbor down the street told me he had a 73 dodge dart and his engine blew because it needed leaded fuel. Is this the same for a 71 charger???? :scratchchin
I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, but I'm all out of bubble gum.

i believe unleaded gas damages the valve seats on the original heads. you can get new seats that will be ok.

I have a 61 Metro, the cream 66 Charger, and the black 66 Charger...have been running unleaded gas since the leaded gas was no longer available...all still run great..no issues so far...with no head work or valve seats installed

:iagree:

Leaded gas was phased out in 1973. Your 71, if it has been rebuilt, should have had the modern hardened valves and peripherals installed for use with unleaded. If not, the motor has probably already seen excess valve wear and it's too late. A rebuild in the future will address the issue.

If it's still the original motor, you should use a lead additive if you feel you have a lot more miles more left in the motor. :popcrn:

thank you. I'm pretty sure its a rebuilt. the first owner of this car told the last guy who owned her that the engine was repainted and she seems to have new seals on the engine. How would I find out if its a rebuilt???

Yeah me too.  I have run all my Muscles cars on regular unleaded gas including this 440 Charger.  The Charger will ping if I really put a power load on it because I tweaked the timing to have it run fine under normal drives on the piss weak expensive regular gas I buy.  I even ran my 70 LS6 454/450hp Chevelle on unleaded regular.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.
