The 509 needs some compression and descent intake manifold along with a set of headers to function properly. With an auto trans you need 3800 stall and 3.91 or larger gears. Forget about running a brake booster because this grind makes little manifold vacuum.

There are better cams out there.  :Twocents:

If i was going to pick a cam for that combo the Comp XE284H would be my choice. It'll fit with no valveguide modifications as long as you have enough valvespring to keep it happy. The Comp #911 valvesprings are perfect and fit with the stock retainers/locks.  :2thumbs:

Make no mistake, this is a choppy sounding cam and won't be mistaken for stock. :apimp: Idles descent with a good ignition curve and makes excellent midrange and top end power.  :icon_smile_big:

The mopar 509 is very close to my cam. I have an old school racer brown 510 cam in my 383 with similar build specs to your engine. I had a 3000 stall converter in it and it was very streetable. Like mentioned above it makes no vaccuum though if you had powerbrakes in mind. But other then that's its a great powerful cam. You can hear mine on youtube. Just look up c00nhunterjoe. I have all kinds of videos of my car
