There is a pad that goes between the top of the gas tank and the bottom of the trunk floor. It looks like a piece of old cardboard but its not. What is it?

Other members will know the exact material but its like very thick roofing felt.

Dixie Restorations has a nearly spot-on reproduction of the fuel tank pad for $20.  It's a tan colored, thick felt pad.  Commonly-available 30lb. Roofing paper would serve the same purpose but doesn't look much like the originals.

There aren't any pictures of the felt pad on their website, but I bought and installed one on my Daytona.  Great stuff.

nobody is gonna see it anyway....unless yer trunk is rotted.....

I would use the roofing paper as well...and I think I did when we built the Daytona

I just smeared some grease as a corrosion inhibitor on both sides of a piece of tar paper and used that.
