Question about the rear crossmember where the shocks are

I have a 68 Dodge Charger. I crawled under my car today after getting nowhere trying to bleed my new brakes. I bought new air shocks to put on my car. I noticed towards the end of the cross member at the bend where it mounts to the side rails, one side was completely cracked. Also, the very center of the crossmember almost at the center of the car was also cracked halfway through the brace. The guy I bought the car from had replaced the trunk floor. I'm thinking he may have cut into it. Anyway, I welded them up and made a brace to go over the side crack to beef it up. I was wondering if the top part of the crossmember welds to the trunk floor or if it stays loose like it is. I don't think the guy did a very thorough job on it. I just want to make sure before I mount my air shocks that everything is sturdy.
Thanks for the help!

I have seen all this. But until today, I have never seen such a pain in the ars car like this 68 Charger!

You will need to either weld it or get a new one. By the way most of those that cracked were because of AIR SHOCKS. I would never install a set of those on my car for that very reason.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

That crossmember is not heavy enough to support the weight of the car.

Agreed. The air shocks take the weight/load designed to be held by the leaf springs and put it on the already flimsy upper shock crossmember and the lower mounting stud on the shock plate.  :-\
