I love these old vans & wish the craze would come back more than it has. I would love to find a nice original or restore one to the 70's standards someday. It would make a nice tow vehicle for my 70' Challenger.

the van nationals this summer will be in my area. some friends of mine told me to hurry up and get another van and join them. problem is that I was hopeful of getting the cougar painted and hitting the car shows. so I will just have to borrow a van. :nana:

There is a van show nearby here in Weedsport, NY every summer called "ProVanity" never been to it because vans ain't my thing. Honestly, I think the van craze died out quick for 2 reasons: (1)-guys figured they'd "get some" and usually didn't (2) when junior showed up with his custom van to take out little Suzy, Mom and Dad said:"NO WAY is my daughter going out with you in THAT thing!"
(While Daddy was stuffing shells in his shotgun as fast as Mom could hand them to him) :smilielol:  :smilielol:

vanning was huge back in the 70's. when I was living in California we would go to a van run and there would be thousands of vans. as everything else goes, business men thought that there was a way they could make a buck off of the whole thing. all the big name companies showed up with thousands of dollars worth of giveaway's and such, but they would demand that it all had to run their way. when a group of us vanners refused to convert to their way of thinking, they told us that the sport wouldn't last without their backing. they said that 98% of the vanners agree with their way of thinking. (why they didn't just do their own thing and tell us to hit the road I will never know). well, they were partly right and partly wrong. when big business pulled out and the huge giveaway's stopped, so did a lot of the people only in it for the freebees. vanning still lives today, we all started wearing a "2%" patch on our jackets. we showed the corporate guys that we could still have vanning without their interference. in this area we still have several van clubs operating. gateway vans was the club I was in, fast lane vans, high rolling vans, etc... here is a link to the national event for this year.  http://43rdvannationals.com/

That's what I'm talking about and affordable too.........well, initially anyway.  :smilielol:

You guys remember the "lace" paint technique on vans where you'd shoot through it.
Some designs were very elegant, others whorehouse trashy.

I still remember in like 1969 or 70 a friend of mine's dad had a 67 Satelite and he used what looked like a floral table cloth as a stencil for stripes on his hood  :eek2:

True quadravans are state-of-the-art in terms of a properly
engineered drive train. Pathfinder components are all a buyer
needs to know. That's the kind of van I'd seriously consider
we're it not for all the damn windows.  :shruggy:

Nice too bad it didn't have a small block. I would love to have it, my boat is close to that color. It may pull a boat, I pulled a small camper and a 12 ft aluminum boat on top of a Duster that had a slant 6 3pd. I drove it from Topeka KS to Carbondale Illinois and back in the early 80's
