can anyone tell me if when assembling the grille, is it best to mount the grille support into the car and then install the plastic or should it all be assembled as a whole, then installed? thanks in advanced.

You install the plastic & metal frame assembly together itself before putting the whole thing into the car.  It pretty much has to be done that way just to make it work.
