well now that the front end suspension system of my 70 charger is pretty much so complete now it's time to attack the rear. I already have the shocks ready to put in but I need to buy the leaf springs and what ever other updated hardware will be needed to get those put in. I was looking at the mopar performance HD leaf springs summit sells but wanted to know if anyone here has a suggestion on what else will need to be purchased to get those in and updated.

Springs, u-bolts, shackles are the core of it.

I like the XHD units, but a lot of people have complained about them being made in Mexico and flattening out. However, Mopar springs are supposed to be nearly flat. If you want arch, I'd suggest getting a +1 or +2 inch arch set up from Espo.

you going with the super stock springs or the 426 springs in the catalog?  I'm in the same boat and not sure what to do myself.
It doesn't matter how your car looks, as long as you have one.

I put the S/S springs in mine way back in about 1982. I parked the car for about ten years, came back and the springs had sagged about 2". That's without driving more than maybe 200 miles. The message here is that any spring will sag some over time, and steel doesn't really care about who stood there and ran the machine-as long as the quality control and materials are the same.

Since I'm going touring before racing, I'm looking for a set of stock B-body springs to hang the 8-3/4 with. I think that and a set of Cal-Tracs will make for a nice ride.

Yup. that's why some racers use fiberglass ones. Same rate, more consistent, only 5# each. But mucho more expensive.

Too much arch, too much spring rate, or both, equals too much oversteer.

gonna get started on that rear suspension upgrade finally but I'm curious. what is that line/wire that connects from the chassis to the shock absorbers? My new gas shock absorbers dont have a connection point for that line????

Is it a plastic hose? Allmost sounds like air shocks.
Still looking for 15x7 Appliance slotted mags.....

I think so. Here is a pic of the connection at the shock:

and here is where it connects to the chassis just above it:

if it is. Can I just disconnect all the unneeded lines and pack um away forever since im putting in gas shocks now? Im assuming so.

You won't need it. So yes. I'm guessing in the trunk someplace is a valve that the hose from each shock hooks to. So they can be inflated.

I'm getting ready to do this job as well.  How do you like your springs so far?  What difficulties did you run into swapping them out?  Did you have to buy any more parts than what you listed?  Inquiring minds want to know...

jwilk01

I just did the exact same thing and got the XHD springs too.  I bought the shocks and shackles from napa though, and had the shackles powder coated.  Looks very nice and I am very happy with mine.  I haven't had a chance to drive it yet but I can't wait!

Looks great!!!

Do the new leafs jack the car up any?  Do you like the stance?  Pictures please!
