Why dont some people put prices in their ads?

I'm not talking about here, I'm talking about ads in general.

I run across ads all of the time where someone is selling a car, and doesnt put the price in. Why is that?

First of all, if I see an ad with no price, I just ignore it because it usually means that someone is asking a sky high price, and that somehow, by talking
to them, you are going to magically "see the light" and want to pay too much for their piece of crap.

I actually saw an ad today where the guy put in a picture of a partial front seat, and never even bothered to say what model of year of car he was selling. Unreal!

For Gods sake, if you want to sell something, tell people how much you want for it!

I fully agree.  I think the two biggest points for selling anything is #1, what you have for sale and #2, how much (price).   If I see an ad for a truck for sell but no price, I just say "that's great" and move on.

I see that here too, they put a great price in but don't mention the number of kilometres on it, or vice versa.  I even had someone tell me a car was a v6 when it was a 4banger and when I rejected it he asked me if I really wanted to pay for the extra gas.  Cars sales is "cute" that way.  Nothing sells cars like putting up a tent and claiming the sale is a big event.   yeah right.

These people are fishing...

I emailed someone (from this forum, actually) on a part last year. He told me his price was "$100" for the part + shipping.

I asked a buddy, two days later, to ask (the same guy) how much it was and he said "I have an offer for $100, so if you can do better, its yours!"

I sold hundreds of cars and I always put as much info as I can so I know whoever calls is serious and has all the info. If the car is roadside the least I post is year, mileage, auto etc....
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I'm just as annoyed with people putting for sale ads with no pictures

I hate it when people try to sell a junk part and call it "Driver" quality.

Or when they call a used part NOS.

bull

Yup, fishing, as jb666 said. They are just hoping someone will respond with an offer that's 3x what the part is worth but usually they just end up getting frustrated with lowballers.

When I see craigslist ads without prices or pics I just move on to the ads that do have them and assume the others are lazy people who aren't really that interested in selling.

I had the opposite happen in the summer actually. I tried to sell a pair of Rallye wheels and I didn't have internet at the time so I just put my phone number and said "No emails- phone ###-###-####" and I never got a call. A month later I got internet again so I relisted them with my email and I got a bunch of people emailing asking all sorts of stupid questions ::)

The ones that drive me nuts are the craigslist ads that have one line telling you they have a charger for sale and go on to say "email for more info" and they never respond to an email.  :RantExplode:

I wonder if that's just a way of getting your email to start sending spam?

Ranman69SE

There must be companies that pay for email addresses, because there seems to be a bunch of people responding to Craigslist ads that have no real interest in what is being sold.  I have also encountered fake ads as well.  An item is listed at a great price with no phone number.  I think the idea is to accumulate as many email addresses of people who will inquire about the item.   They are only after your email address.

I recently had a truck for sale, and I got two responses that said "I really like your car, can you send me more info?"  Mind you, I had four pictures, price, and about three paragraphs of information describing every thing about it.

Lately, I am getting annoyed at people hiding the fact that the car they have for sale is a four door. I have nothing against "more-door" vehicles, it's just not what I am into right now.  I also love the interior shots where they only show the back seat.  Obviously, the upholstery on the front seat is trashed.  :yesnod:

Same with wood boats.  They never take a shot of the bilge with the floor boards out - which constitutes 90% of your buying decision.
Like your not going to ask for them?   I am much more condfident in a seller that shows the warts too.  Just get it out there.  Were all big boys. Maybe.

it seems to be a car thing. go to a car lot not a price on any car. people put cars for sale and tell you everything except the price. just looked at a truck yesterday and no price just a phone number. wont be buying that truck. why would you want people calling you if your price is to high. put the how much you want. then i will know if i want to call you.

Yeah, it really makes me mad when car dealers do that. I refuse to stop at any car lot that does not post their prices, because they are either being inconsiderate towards their potential customers, or are ashamed of their prices. Either way, I want nothing to do with them, and will only stop at lots that proudly display their prices.

Old Moparz

Ads without a price are annoying, but it depends on what it is I am looking for as to whether I will contact the seller & ask how much. Most are correct, the seller is fishing for more than it's worth, or not serious about selling. However, some of the best deals have been ads without prices. I once bought a car from a newspaper ad for $500 that had a brand new interior worth $1500, & extra sheet metal parts worth close to $2000. I know I've called more nimrods that wasted my time, but sometimes you have to sift through the trash to find treasure.
