Okay... A different kind of horse power. Some of you know I do site construction and equipment upgrades for wireless companies. It's been quite a challenge here this year with all the snow, ice, and sub zero temps. So on this particular project. Mother nature has been kicking everyones ass.

Not this time though. We unveiled our secret weapon. When everything with wheels and tracks came to a stand still, I decided to go "old school tech." and we got her done using a couple draft horses. Many of the cell towers are off road and are seldom plowed. Our all wheel drive Lull construction forklift was burried for two days. (stuck in the snow) Two draft horses and a sled burned right past it and then the horses pulld the construction lift out of the site too.

Sometimes... I actually love my job.

No... I'm not the Amish guy in the pic. I must say he was one hell of a handler.

I passed a set of draft horses working some telephone upgrades on my commuting route here last year (?). Wasn't even winter but the poles were on some interesting hills/banks. I think they were using them to pull new lines off the spools. Definitely cool!

Actually these two boys are Belgians but come to think about it... Draft horses were originally used as military horses (more so the Percheron's) which were indeed the "Original Chargers."

Bakerhillpins mentioned seeing them pulling telephone poles too. To this day our local power company uses them for the same purpose to bring poles lines and other equipment through remote forest areas to minimize damage to the environment. It's a much better approach than bulldozing a big track of forrest just to run power lines.

There is still a network of these guys who still use these horses for selective logging operations which is how I got the idea to use them for this application.

That's cool!
During my hometown celebration we have a antique farm machinery demo.  We have some tractors and 3 teams of horses plowing, its impressive to watch them work.
If cash were no problem I'd have a team of Draft horses.  Hit a few horse pulls during the summer.
