Hey,
I have been having trouble getting my 833 4speed to shift correctly into 1st gear and reverse in my 70 Charger RT.

The shifter is a new Hurst Competition unit. I put the car in neutral, chocked the tires and right now I have the shift rods and levers disconnected from the trans.

I am trying to align the shifter arms by inserting a rod through the alignment hole in the shifter but the rod only goes through 1/2 and 3/4 arms but will not go through the reverse arm???

What is the deal with that?

Could somebody have a pic of how the shift levers/rods should be fitted on the tranny for a 68-70 B-body?

I find it easier to begin with the rods disconnected from the shifter. Move the shifter levers until you can pin the alignment hole. Shift all the transmission levers into neutral, then adjust the rods so they fall into the shifter holes just right. That should get your shifting ok. Then adjust the stop bolts so they are about 1/2 turn into the levers while pulling the handle.

The Hurst shifters that don't have a rig pin hole in the Reverse lever require a special tool that indexes off the side of the levers. Since nobody has the tool I have always eyeballed to align the the sides of the Reverse lever with the sides of the 1-2 and 3-4 levers when the rig pin is installed in them.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John,

I've never seen one without a pin for reverse. Would those be stock (non-competition plus) shifters? Or a date/upgrade thing?
