Bass Amp Recommendation

I know there are a few musicians here on the forum, so if anyone has an opinion of what to get, or what to stay away from, please give me a few recommendations.   :2thumbs:

First thing, the amp is for my daughter who's 11. She started playing electric bass at school last year with the jazz band, & has an electric, Fender Precision. Not sure how serious she is, or how long she will stay with it, but I do believe she's into it for the long haul. I'm guessing this because she picked up on it fast, has played the piano since she was 6, the cello since 8, & still plays both.

She needs to be heard along with the brass section in the band, but I'm not sure of what kind of power she will need to do that. Right now she is playing through my wife's Hartke amp at home, & the instructor's at the school, but she needs to have her own there. My daughter says the one at school isn't loud enough, but I don't know what it is. My wife plays an upright acoustic also has a Gallien-Krueger amp, but this one is more geared towards an acoustic bass.

Also something important, we don't want to leave something expensive at the school that may get damaged or stolen. A used amp is fine too.

Thanks.

Ive been using a Behringer BX1800 for the last few years and I really like it. I believe I paid about $200 for it. Its 180w and was the best bang for the buck at the time.

She needs to be heard ...

This worked for Noel, it should work for her  ;)

The Berringer is probably a nice fit. She needs something with some power and dad needs something that's easy on the pocket book.

The Fender Rumble 75 watter runs about $250.

I wouldn't wrap up a lot of money in an amp at this point.

I have had for years a Peavy Basic 60... It has a good bult in compressor/limiter. Simply doesn't looks to like 5 strings due the lower B string. 5 strings needs a bigger cone, or multiple cones to reproduce NICE the long lenght waves of those lower 5 first frets of the B string

50 RMS watts, and I think in mostly of cases, louds enough.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but we got lucky on Craigslist today.

There was a brand new listing for a 100 watt Crate amp, a BX-100 with an EQ & a 15" driver for $75 that was only about a 1 hour drive. We emailed the seller, he called & said come look, so we went to see it & snagged it. It was bigger & heavier than we wanted, but for $75 we couldn't go wrong. Mostly because if some kid at the school decides the amp is a toy & screws it up, we're only out a small amount of cash.

It's very heavy, so I will put casters on the bottom so nobody has to lift it. If it turns out that it's too awkward, then we'll look for another one later. The seller said he bought it new in 1999 & paid about $300 for it.

Here's an internet pic of the same one.

I had your amps bigger brother back when I used to play in high school. You shouldn't have any problems with that and 75 was a steal. The sound quality isn't quite as good, but for what your using it for you probably won't even notice a difference.

definitelly!!! 15" and $75? NICE DEAL!!! Crate aren't either bad or good IMHO, simply enough for the use.
