POST YOUR BEST WINGED CAR BURNOUT STORY

It is dusk.  The sun is just below the horizon.  We are at a rural T paved intersection.  There is no other traffic.  For reasons unknown, my car will spin counter-clockwise "cookies" for as long as I care to do them.  The balance of the car combined with the wide rear tires is the perfect recipe for perpetual "donuts" that pivot off of a stationary front left tire.  It also helps that I am running a Predator carburetor, a huge camshaft and headers.  The best part is that the exhaust is plumbed with 3" dumps that exit under each door and when the caps are off they produce a monotone 5500 RPM symphony that will raise the hair on your neck.

As this is a vacant intersection, I begin the run with a series of cookies.  I raise the RPMs to about 3000 in neutral and dump the clutch.  I have to modulate the throttle constantly to keep the average coefficient of friction perfect.  Too little throttle and the tires will bite.  Too much and the car will stop turning and just spin.  It sounds like I am sitting still and just revving the engine but the car is spinning in place.  The sound is a variable bellow between 3000 and 5000 RPM.

After I have satisfied myself with the thrill of circular travel, I judge it is time to start moving forward.  When about half way through the last circle, I punch it and hold it to the floor.  This stops the circular motion and the car starts moving in a specific direction albeit pleasantly sideways at the same time.

When the tires start to bite, I bang second gear and the car drifts slightly to the opposite side and continues this until it is time for third gear.

By this time, forward motion is established.  Third gear will be for propelling forward - it will be a traction gear.  The sound coming out from under the doors is alive.  It is pure energy.  I am unaware of the tachometer or speedometer.  The sound says everything that needs be said.

I am due for 4th gear.  This is a comparatively long gear.  We listen to the RPMs until I hit about 5500.  I am well over 100 MPH.  At this point I tell my passenger to look down out of their open window.  When they do so, I drop off the throttle completely.  The unburned fuel flowing through the exhaust ignites as it exits the pipes below the doors and produces belches of fire that can be easily seen in the early evening semi-darkness.

I am shaking with adrenalin and, at the same time, at one with myself.
The sound of power.

Not much of a story. Someone dared me to do it at the hotel while at MMW...so I did it.

He really didn't have to dare me. I would have done it it anyway. I won't tell you his name but his initials are Ken Pressley.

I'm sorta used to doing burnouts. Especially in the long red car.  :icon_smile_big:

My 440 powered dragster has a wing so this is a winged car burnout story.  ;D
I attached my gopro camera to the wing of my dragster and recorded first round last weekend at out local track. As luck would have it, I had to race my son in the first round. He's chasing points and was a little upset when I took him out. That's racing. I aint gonna John Force a round for no one.  :icon_smile_big:

Believe it or not this is the 440 that was in my N96 shaker hood 71 cuda that I sold a few months ago. I kept the engine and after dropping a valve in my good 440 that was in the dragster I was glad I did. This one's just a stock rod motor with a decent cam. I set the rev limiter at 5800 just to be safe. It don't take a whole heck of a lot of horsepower to make a 1500 lb car do 5.60's in the 1/8th mile. My 60 foot times were 1.19 seconds. The limiter for launch is set at 4200, the shft is set at 5600 and then back to the 5800 limiter. The good motor is a roller motor, has max wedge cast iron heads with an indy intake and dominator carb.  I plan to buy a good set of indy aluminum heads later on.
Can't wait to get the good motor back from the machine shop. I wanna go faster.

I bought the GoPro camera, roll bar mount kit and carrying case for around $325. I can't believe the kind of technology you can buy for that kind of dough these days.

Mounting the camera on the wing does give you the feeling of being right there in the car. Next week I'm going to mount the gopro on the nose looking back. Can't wait to see what that's going to look like.
I'm thinking about making a mount to bolt to the end of the wing on the superbird and making a video. I'll post it if I do. I have a suction cup setup and maybe I could just add a safety lanyard to the wing to keep from loosing the camera.
