Just got my fathers Daytona running and when he shuts it off the headlights come up. Car has been sitting for several years Everthing works fine when running. Just when its not running Any suggestions how to fix this problem? Seems like a vaccum leak to me.Scott

WINGIN IT

Right, likely a vacuum leak, question is where.
You have to go through all the lines, connectors as well as the acuators if I understand it correctly.
I'm sure the experts will reply with how to best attack the situation.

the switch is a common leaker  , but it could be the hoses ? , or the pods ?  or the rubber lines them selves ?

GO SELL CRAZY SOMEWHERE ELSE WE ARE ALL STOCKED UP HERE

CAREFULLY Pull the springs and call it a good day.

How long does it take for them to come up?

Also check the vacuum canister under the battery.

Isn't that the way it is for everything on these cars? Parts come off real easy, then when it comes time to put them back you can't find everything you have taken off. Or it just doesn't go back on the same nice easy way it came off.

They come up right away when you turn on the headlight switch and go down when you turn them off. But after the car sits for a while the headlights come up.

Thats pretty much normal wingcars creeping headlights :icon_smile_big: .Check all the vacuum lines from engine intake manifold to vacuum can under battery. In most cases it could be the headlight plastic switch.Check condition of the vacuum reservior can

Even the slightest vac. leak will cause this. The headlights were made to fail safe in the up position so you could safely see if the vacuum system failed. Bette stuck open and have lights than stuck down.....

If the vacuum can old replace it.They get pinholes from battery acid and the valve on the end of the can wears out
You can bypass the white plastic headlight switch by unplugging from the headlight switch at back of dash cluster. And jumping the ports with a vacuum hose and straight hose plastic connectors. The one port will be direct engine vacuum and other will raise or lower
You vacuum check the diaphrams in the cansisters with a vacuum gun with gauge. To check leakdown
But start with hoses cond and tees and connections. And troubleshoot from there
