Is it true that Texas cars are pretty much rust free or is that a myth that those of us who live in New England believe?

I think it's desert cars that fit this bill.  :2thumbs:  Case in point, the Charger that is sitting in primer on the corner of Hwy 50 in South Lake Tahoe. It's been sitting there for 10 yrs in primer in front of this guys place and it hasn't rusted away yet.

I think it also has to to do with how much time they spent on the road.

Parts of Texas may have lower humidity and less rain but I would not say cars from there are safe.  Arizona, lower Nevada, and parts of New Mexico are best for rust free cars.

Central Texas, West / North Texas all have pretty arid environments. Anything along the Gulf Coast is another story.............

No. My Challenger is from Texas and has plenty of rust. As mentioned, desert cars won't have rust (but interior and rubber will usually be wasted). I have had better luck with cars from Montana, Oregon, and Washington state. The worst in my experience have been from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan. One car I got from New York and it was nice - but it came from New Mexico/Florida and hadn't been there long.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Tahoe gets 8 inches of rain in an average year. Then it gets 216 inches of snow on average !!!!!!!!

That "no" rust Charger is in a very very wet environment, so I have to doubt it has just sat for 10 years, exposed to the heat/rain/snow cycles and have no rust. It's been indoors.  :yesnod:  :Twocents:

No one should assume that a "California" car is an excellent rust free car. There are large parts of the state with 40 to 100 plus inches of rain, and others with 50 to 400 inches of snow. IT AIN'T ALL LA LA LAND, with sun and 72 degrees.

What you want, with the highest probability of no rust, would come from the non-mountain parts of Arizona and Nevada. So yeah the Texas claims are a myth due to the immense size of the state and different types of weather available.

It was there when I went out to my sisters wedding in 2005 (when I first saw it), and was there ever since she moved there in like 2002 early 2003 after she graduated from UNR (so my sister informed me). She works 2 blocks down from the place. Anyhow, it's possible she was mistaken. It certainly hasn't changed much in the 6 years between my visits. :shruggy:
