So today was one of the first really warm days we have had this year. I decided to take a little ride in the charger with my girlfriend. We decided to ride through the local park. Coming out of the park, i stopped at a stop sign with an explorer stopped behind me. im sitting waiting to pull out and SLAM! the guy behind me just takes his foot off the brake and runs right into me.

Iit was a hard hit and i though for sure there was a lot of damage considering he was driving a ford explorer.   :flame:  I was furious and ran back to the guy, who i can tell probably isn't gonna have insurance, he just starts apologizing and all i said was you better hope you have insurance. I told him to give me his information. He hands me an identification card. The guy didn't even have a license, he was suspended.  :slap:  I find out that the vehicle has insurance but its not his vehicle.

Once i calmed down and took a good look at the damage, the charger only suffered a scuffed bumper, dented tail panel and a dented trunk lid. The explorer absorbed all the impact and basically the front bumper got pushed up under to the tires. it looked a lot worse.

Ive always been concerned that the charger wouldn't withstand an impact as well as a newer car but it seems to be the other way around. Now as long as the insurance company takes care of everything.

On the bright side, ive gotten the dreaded accident in my charger out of the way. hopefully it doesn't happen again!

that sucks, check for slight bows in the quarters if you havent already hope they have REAL good insurance.

Well it's late for this advice now but ALWAYS have a police officer show up to an accident scene. You want them there to take statements, fill out a report, and be an impartial 3rd party to the incident. I didn't call the cops once (same situation as you) and spent 3 months pissing up a flag pole to get the money to cover the damage to my car. I learned a major lesson that time. The next time I got hit by a lady who ran a stop sign I requested the cops. Good thing I did. She produced fake insurance docs and tried to skip out on paying. The ONLY thing that saved my a$$ was the fact that I had a police report that specified it was her fault so my insurance company covered all the costs and did all the leg work to get the funds from her.

As far as making them like they used to. Modern day cars are designed to crumple so that the car takes the brunt of the impact rather than you. These old cars transfer all the force of impact to the drivers body. Bad for you but not for the car.  :-\

Glad to hear you were not hurt and the Charger appears to be unscathed.

Yes definitely have a police officer arrive at the scene if you are in an accident.  Also make sure to write down exactly what happend.  Why, because that idiot who rear ended you may file a lawsuit against you in the future.

Here is what happened to me.  I got into a minor (not even) fender bender with a newly wed couple back in 07.  Nearly two years later I find out they are going to file a lawsuit against me.  They claimed I SLAMMED into them (they hit me) and it was nothing more than a tap.  In fact the only damage to their suv was a small scratch, (which I found out later.)

They claimed in the lawsuit they suffered numerous severe injuries (back, neck, wrists, legs,) that would require medical attention for the rest of their lives.  (BS, they got out walked around several times, even in front of the officer that arrived on the scene).  They claimed I destroyed their marriage and their ability to have kids, (yet they ended up having two kids AFTER the accident and BEFORE they filed a lawsuit against me).  They wanted a boat load of money, eventually the desposition occured (that's how far it went) my lawyer was there with me, (they didn't show up).  I told their lawyer what really happened, and that the police officer could back up my claims of me seeing them walk around.  Oh and the officer told me the plaintiffs told him they were NOT injured just angry with me.  Basically these two idiots had alot of evidence against their case, yet they still filed a lawsuit against me.  In the end after I gave my disposition the suit was settled.  They didn't get the boat load of money they wanted, they did get about $2500 though, which was all that was left after lawyer fees.

Dont worry guys, theres always an officer around! I am one.  :icon_smile_big:

I definitely know all about what you guys are saying. I see it all the time. I called the accident in and had a report done.

Cops won't come to the scene of an accident in California unless someone is hurt or the accident to impeding the flow of traffic.

Good luck with your car. I hope Allstate treats you well.

You can't do your own report, c'mon.  Police reports aren't at all controlling anyway.  They didn't see the accident happen.  Kim

I didn't do the report, I called it in and another officer came out to take the report. I couldn't do the report myself on my own accident.  :smilielol:
and no, a police report isn't everything, but it does put the facts down so that anyone can determine what happened. not really any confusion to mine. i was sitting still.  :nana:
