Hi guys,  Im trying to find the article when my dad purchased my 70 Charger RT.  He's thinking it was advertised from March thru May 1978.  Does anyone know if these old issues of Hemmings are archived online anywhere and if so, does any of the members here have access?  It's a black 70 Charger R/T and at the time had a gold stripe down the side, 440 4 speed, purchased from VA.  Let me know, I'm willing to pay for the article.

I'm having a hard time finding the prior owners of my car.   I reached out to the VA DMV and they said they couldn't help me since the car was purchased in 1978.  I believe the original owners name is Howard A Brooks Jr.    There was a sticker in the trunk from JC Penny when the prior owner purchased tires and that was the name on it.   Lynchburgh, VA was the city listed.   Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know about archived anywhere but we do have some old ones at work.  It's a very long shot but if we have that one I'll send it off to you.

From a older post Feb 78 is mentioned about your dads charger . http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php?topic=44248.0
You might try submitting the vin to a six pack charger registry for prior history.Looking for Brooks Jr

I have buildsheets from these cars but found no owners to date
.Also try Chris G on the 70 Charger registry if anyone knows the cars prior owner or its history  http://1970chargerregistry.com/

NascarXX29,
Thanks again for the information so far.  I talked to Mike and no good from him.  He told me he currently has 1 daytona but doens't remember anything from 78/79 timeframe.   I also call Ed but the phone just rang and rang.   I"ll try him again tomorrow.
I've talked to Chris about it and he didn't have anything on the vin either, we actually hooked up with both of our RT's last year at Carlisle, great show

OK  After talking to my mom she said my dad purchased the car in 1979, sometime between July and November.   She remembers that because I was born in March 78, my brother in July 79, and we were both around when my dad flew to VA to get the car.   LOL, he was only 21 y/o at that time.  Pretty funny.

Would you mind checking your 1979 archive for the article.   At the time the car was black with gold stripes on the side up and around the door scoops.   I'm not sure how far ahead Hemmings was back then in publishing their editions but it gotta be in there somewhere.    Let me know if you find it.

Lastly, I didn't get your PM's at all.    Thanks again for your time.   I'd be glad to compensate you if you come across the article.   Thanks again

Thanks Nascar,   What's your name anyhow?  lol

I tried both numbers but they've both been disconnected.   I guess I need to write some letters to the addresses you provided.  Do you have any other idea's?

If you find the article with a phone number, is there a way to cross reverence that phone number to an individual?  Just thinking...   Thanks

OK guys,   I haven't had much luck yet on contacting Marc Waller yet but I did talk to Ed Wilson today.   WHat a great guy, I'm actually going to hook up with him this year at Carlisle.   Anyhow, he's going to take a look locally since my car was purchased about 10 miles from his shop.   For those of you that don't know Ed, he has a used car lot and repair shop in Lynchburg VA and he's flipped over a hundred of chargers over the years, several of them being 70 V-code cars and Superbirds.  It's funny because I was telling this to my dad and my dad remembers talking to him about a sublime V-code car back in 78 but he passed on it because it was an automatic. He's also the one selling the yellow hardtop V-code car in the add posted above.  Pretty cool.   He said back in the late 70's and early 80's he was finding these for $3K then selling them for $6.  Pretty crazy what inflation has done to these cars now.   He's 80 something now but he was a pleasure to talk to on the phone.
I'm now continuing my search but I'm having a hard time finding a Marc Waller as well, that's the name that was in the Hemmings add.   Let me know if you find anything.

Thanks nascarxx29,
I don't want to hijack Bill's thread anymore than I have already.  I have a thread in this forum area about my search for my car's history here.

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,78768.0.html

I bought her on autotrader.com back in 1999 but was wondering about her history before then.  She came with no paperwork.  PM me, or let's chat in my thread.  Thanks!

BTW, Bill, I think I met you in Carlisle last year?  You were hanging under a tent with Bill Fahey, your cars were parked next to each other I think?  I recall you saying you and your brother used to ride in that car in car seats when you were kids.  I was there on Saturday and came through the registry/1970 area to say hi to everyone after my swap meet shopping fest.  I was the big guy in the bright orange t-shirt that said Beat 'Nova.  I think you were there with your brother?  I was taking pics of everyone's cars for resto details for my ride.  Nice work, great car and I'm glad to see the progress you've made on tracing your car's history.

I have a picture of my son in the back of my Charger from last fall in his car seat.  I'll post it tonight, I hope he can one day tell stories about my car the way you can about your dad.

Dan

I have an update.   With the help from nascarxx29 I was able to obtain the name of the previous owner, Marc Waller from VA.  So, I googled the name and came up with a few hits so over a 3 week period I got in touch with each of them.  Finally yesterday at lunch I was able to talk to the previous owner, Marc Waller.  He remembered the car well.   He was 29 years old when he sold the car and it was sold because at the time he was starting a business, getting married, building a house, and he also had a new 78 Z28 Camaro and a 70 Challenger RT vert.   One had to go so since he had the Charger for 3 years it was the Chargers turn.  He purchased the Charger in 1975 from the original owner who worked at a local Chevy/Pontiac/Caddilac dealer in Lynchburg.  It's actually the same guy he ordered his Z28 from.   He actually lived in Pittsburgh for a short time so he knows my area well.   He said he has a folder of documentation on the car including several pictures, receipts, literature, bill of sale, and characteristics of the car.   He did this with every car he owned back then and he said he use to buy and sell lots of cars to make a few extra bucks back then.   When he sold the Charger he ended up buying an Orange Boss 302 Mustang so this guy is a car nut.    To this day he still owns his fathers 68 Charger, 318 car along with a few Porsche's.
He also said he had a few deals with Ed Wilson, the gentlemen I spoke to a few weeks ago that use to advertise many 6 pack and 4 speed chargers back in the 70's and 80's.  Unfortunately Ed didn't remember Marc but they live only a few miles from 1 another.  I'll be sure to keep everyone on the board updated as I continue my search.

Awesome news, congrats.  Here's two pictures of my boy in my car last fall on our first family cruise.  He's definitely got Mopar in his blood, the rumble of my 440 big block put him to sleep!

Cute kid Dan.   :2thumbs:

My daughter was barely 6 months old when I put her in the back of my blue Charger.  The show was about 5 miles away.  According to one of my buddies my car was talked about quite a bit for being a beautiful Charger with a car seat in back.

Remember years ago when all we had was Hemmings for classics all over the country?  Even before the Classic Auto Trader.  We'd wait close to two months some times to have our ride listed in Hemmings.  Now we can list a car & have the money in our account in an hour's time.   :D

My car's previous owner bought it from Chuck Hoffman & all he remembers is it came from California.   :shruggy:
Congrats to you guys' for being able to dig up po's.  :2thumbs:

-Thanks, Bill

Bill,
I think I know your Marc Waller.  PM me.

Not sure how this thread slipped by, Bill. That is so awesome! What a great paper trail, hope you solve the puzzle.  :2thumbs:

I "stumbled" on finding the original owner of my '70 by just doing a Google search. He was the first number I contacted & I got lucky. I thought the search would be hopeless, rumor had it that he was 55 years old when he ordered my car. Turns out he was only in his mid-30's!
We've spoken quite frequently, & was elated to hear his old Charger still existed & is now well cared for. We've become good friends & pen pals now. Great guy.
