Power Steering Pump Leaking - Need ID of pump

My '68 Charger 440 power steering pump has a small leak that I am ready to address. If I am going to take the pump out I might as well see how hard it is to replace the seals instead of shipping it off for a rebuild. I have not tried this before but I read some other posts saying it was pretty difficult. Any comments or advice?

NAPA has two kits for two different types of pumps but I don't know which kit I need. Can anyone ID the pump for me so I can choose the right kit?

I'm guessing it's a TRW but it's hard to tell by the pic. Take a look at this: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,69569.0.html

So where is it leaking? It might be the large o-ring around the inner base of the reservoir, in which case you could replace just that and/or the smaller o-ring around the mounting bracket bolt. Those two spots and the return hose are three places the pump can leak at the reservoir. If it's something else you're going to have more work to do. If you can't tell where it's leaking I would clean it real good with some hot, pressurized water and then run it until you see where the fresh steering fluid is coming out.

I believe you have a TRW pump.  I think the Saginaw has more of an 'oval' shape cross section at the filler tube.

Is the TRW the same as the Federal?

Close, but no cigar.

Agreed. Saginaw and TRW look a lot different and are quite easy to tell apart. It's the TRW/Federal pumps that usually goof people up. TRW parts are pretty hard to find, at least in my area they are.

Yep...I have the TRW pump. But the kits I see don't call out TRW. I see Saginaw and Thompson. Is Thompson the same?

Before going to the trouble to remove/rebuild the pump try some Lucas P/S additive, one of the few "snake oil" potions that really works.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thompson is the T in TRW.
