Why didn't this Charger sell for more?

Saw the Charger on ebay while the auction was still active: BIN for 16.900 which I thought was a very good price already. But it only sold for 10k? If the car is indeed rust free that was a steal! I wonder what's up with that car.

I thought it would of gone for more as well, being a 3rd gen guy I had my eye on it. Looks like the paint is covering something, you can also see some bubbling under the vinyl roof. I think it may have done better if the undercarriage, suspension, etc wasn't so rusty. Has non-oem mirrors, black engine bay, the decklid looks like it's got a lot of bondo, etc.

the colour hurt it a lot.
Factory FM3 (panther pink) cars bring extra money compared to others but in this case it was a colour change from GB5 blue.
FM3 brings extra money because it is rare and was seldom choosen back then. But still today most people would prefer another colour than pink on their car and would only choose pink if it is coded for it.

So many people will consider it needs a full repaint. And that fact is priced in.

Yeah, it's not a very desirable color but it's still a rare car being a 71 R/T - and it's got some very nice options like AM/FM radio or a 6 way seat. I've seen Chargers going for way more where there was significant frame damage shown in pictures! Even in this market. And this car is fairly complete. Bondo in the deck lid? I think it's just the lighting (picture 5?).

I thought it because of the '67-'68 chromed dual snorkel air cleaner. First time I'd seen that....  ;)

rare options do not always mean being desireable and valuable.
It would have brought more if it would have had a Hi impact colour from the factory like GY3 (curious yellow), FJ6 (green go), FC7 (plumcrazy) or black (tx9). A 4-speed, N96 ramcharger hood or a power steel sunroof would have also added money. GB5 blue is decent colour but pretty common. It is not worth buying in the current economy and trying to restore it. It is simply cheaper to buy a done one no matter if you want a condition #1 or just a clean driver in condition #2-3.

If you find a matching 4speed car with documentation and a great desireable colourcombination, being mostly original unmolested it could bring easily the same money even if it has serious rustproblems.

And if you start stripping the pink one for a paintjob you will probably find some issues, too like always
