Did I just read 2 people post that this car was "africanized"?  Classy.  Glad to know some of you are still bringing the racism with your rebel flags.

Straight, up.  I'm glad someone saved it from the scrap yard.  I don't give a damn what they did to it.  It's not crushed.

Also Classy saying that the rebel flag only stands for racism.

So me flying the American flag mean I want to invade foreign country's? Don't condemn a flag because of a few peoples comments...  that would make you just as ignorant.... and your better then that...right?

So you would have preferred the original saying? Doesn't matter to me either way.

No not for me.I never liked the big rims. The Limbo doors on the 2ND generation charger looks a little dangerous. You could knock yourself out every time you get in your car.

Good way to get this young generation to see these cars other then ricerockets.

Very similar thing happened to the swastika symbol. It used to be a symbol of good luck (there's one painted in the inside of the nose cone of the Spirit of St Louis!) until the Nazi's adopted it. Then it became a symbol hatred, at least in my eyes.

When the KKK came and burned a cross in your front yard (or worse) they came with the Southern battle flags flying. This association with the flag ties it to racism much like the swastika is tied to the Nazi's. Even the modern day Clan rallies have the flag displayed at their events, further enforcing the relationship.
I can't begin to count the number of 'Heritage not Hate' battle flag bumper stickers I see every day here in the deep south. I've never seen a 'It's Good luck not Racist Perfection' swastika bumper stickers... :scratchchin:

I can easily see why some people take offense to both the swastkia and the battle flag, it just depends on which side of fence your on I guess.

I think that particular car looked pretty good with those doors, wouldn't work for every car.

Hey there Khyron.  I didn't say that it only stood for racism. I mentioned it because it can stand for racism and there's lots of them floating around here, understandably.  Let's look at it another way.  If a girl you know was molested as a child, you'd probably think twice about wearing a shirt around her that says "Chester the Molester" on it.  Maybe ignorance is not being considerate to the feelings of your fellow humans.

Clanton - I don't feel guilt.  I feel that there are times when I can express my freedom by caring what people around me think and feel, even if I disagree.  The same way that I wouldn't laugh at some people who may or may not store left over confederate money next to their flags while subscribing to the belief that "the south will rise again".

Frankly, I understand and appreciate (more than most) the REBEL nature of that flag.  My comparison was clever, nothing more.

None of that excuses the offensive and ignorant use of the word "africanized".  And not to mention that the doors in question were designed and made popular by  Italians, not Africans.

Well, he said it twice so it was obviously a troll attempt.

I'm thinking that he probably never finished high school, has had the same shitty job all his life and figures that the only way to make himself feel better about his lot in life is to pretend that he is superior to someone else strictly based on race.

After owning 15+ 71-74 chargers in my life..........all with failing door hinges, that is not a door I want hanging in the air above my leg like a meat cleaver!! Anyone that owns one of these cars I'm sure can agree that the door closing on your leg from the open position is bad enough.

We are not talking about a Honda door here!!!!

Crap, that's a good point, those things weight a TON :)

I have seen a HIGH QUALITY build of a challenger with scissor doors.  I'm talking about a build as meticulous as any 100 point restoration you've ever seen (for a white guy in his forties...oh the horror!).

They used hinges that will hold up the weight of the doors just fine.  The things are stout as hell.  They are also well counterbalanced using springs and/or gas-charged struts so even if the door does come down, it won't be hard enough to injure you.

Now, with that being said, if the conversion is done on the cheap, then yeah, you are risking some pain.

Personally I don't see anything offensive about it. If someone is offended by that then they are simply looking for an excuse to be offended. 99% of the blacks here in America are no more african than they are chinese. They are American damnit. Their ancestors a few generations ago might have seen africa but most have never set foot out of this country.  And as far as the rebel flag goes, The civil was is over, people need to get over it. People are getting to where they use the race card about like they do their Visa.

Really?  So what does the word "africanized" in this context mean?  Is there some manufacturer of cars in Africa that makes models with a similar aesthetics?  Please explain.

If the original statement means what it sounds like, your post seems to explain MORE reasons why an American could be offended by the comment.

Maybe it would be better to have gutted the doors (for weight) and then Bricklinized them? ...It's a Canadian word I learned in 5th grade (or Grade 5 as they say in the GWN).  ;)

BTW, I do know all 700 words in the Canadian dictionary, eh!

Is Canadianized in this context a disdainful reference to a racial stereotype?  If so, I'm not following it.  If not, your comparison lacks any form of validity whatsoever.

Ghoste

The problem here is that typically the first people to make jokes about Canadians are other Canadians.
