I am working on a 1973 charger I dont know if its a rallly because the car was taken apart there is no fender tag or broadcast sheet or gauges or hood, My question is this car has a orginal center console and bracket etc. so did non rallye cars come  with a console and if so I have not seen any pictures of them or were they only for rallye edition cars?

TK73

SE's also... but the "gill" quarter windows would give that away, unless the window plugs were pulled...

Most likely could get non Rallye or SE with console.

Any pics of what you have?   :icon_smile_big:

The car did not come with any types of gauges bought it as a roller it also had no interior to.
When I was reading and doing research is how I came about fender tag and build sheet but when searching the car had none they were far gone so I 'm doing a guess of what remains left on the car to determine if it was a rallye or not , so far it could be but its hard I also contacted Galen's Tag Service  but he had no info on the car but he put my vin in his database.
here a few picture from seller's place from where I bought it from. AS you can notice wrong rear bumper and tail light and also what ever else came with the car also was wrong every thing dated and checked out came  from 1972 charger so I guess he must swap parts from one to another . The hood also was changed out its not original from the car its diffrent color.

Nacho-RT74

is not an SE ( WP29 on VIN )... its a hardtop if rolling down quarter glass ( WH23 on VIN ) or coupe if its fixed quarter glass ( WL21 on VIN )...

if WH23 could get both kind of gauges, standart or rallye both woodgrain finish. If WL21 then is standart cluster BUT with silver finish EXCEPT if rallye packaged, what will change the cluster to rallye ( the only way to get rallye cluster on a WL21 )

from there, the rallye package is just add on parts, nothing structurally important. You can make a clone out of it easily

Did Rallyes come with a rear sway bar or 400-2?

I have a '73 with the "Rallye appearance package".
It's a WH23 318 auto with a console shifter, sway bars, bulge hood and the Rallye gages from the factory.
I'm not sure what the differences are between a Rallye Charger and a Charger with a Rallye appearance package.

If the car is missing the hood it was likely a bulge hood that has been sold.

Nacho-RT74

Rallyes are by default with rear sway bar, no matter engine. Remember the rallye package was not anymore a performance package, was really an sportier appearence against the rest of the line. Just the rear sway bar could be considered somekind of "real" PERFORMANCE part

well the car is a wh23g3a car but it would of been nice to have fender tag or build sheet with the A57 code.

74Rallye

Sorry for the delayed reply, I have 3 kids with the flu.

This is the only picture I can find of the rear sway bar. It's from my '74 Rallye. It's a 440 car and has the larger diameter sway bars. The small block cars have a smaller sway bar. I could take some pics for you if you need a particular detail.

Console was available in all Chargers from 1968 to 1979. My one owner 73 SE has console, slap stick, buckets and 150mph rally dash.

Nacho I think you may be right about that. I have not compared the rear sway bar sizes between the BB and SB cars. I'll check tonight and post what I find.

Nacho-RT74

my 74 PN catalog shows I think only one or two rears but without making references to block ( I'm sure about that ), but sure diff PN to fronts according with Blocks

The rear swaybars measured the same between the 74 BB and 73 SB Chargers.

FYI I have a 73 hard top non-rally for sure with 318, non-rally gauges, a console w/slapstick, power windows and AC.  Gotta remember that back in those days you really could order EXACTLY  :2thumbs: what you wanted line by line so there are a lot of odd ducks quacking around out there.

ecc12

Hi
doya have pictures? I think minemight be like yours with a console
mine is 318

RallyeMike

There are other signs that you can look for that might indicate it was a Rallye, however without the fender tag or build sheet it will be hard to ever prove:

1. Does it have the dual exhaust valance? This could also be found on SE's and other cars as well, though not as common as to a Rallye.
2. Are there signs that there were hood pins or cables screwed in where they should be? This is something hardly ever on non-Rallye cars.
3. Wiring for Rallye gauges is different than for the standard cluster. Again though, there were plenty of non-Rallye cars that had Rallye gauge packages.

Just more clues that may never lead you to an honest conclusion.

Yeah I looked but one of the previous owner did a really good job of stripping the paint because the car was stripped down to bare metal  and repainted even in engine compartment so the hood pins would be hard to tell, the whole complete dash assembly with fuse box was removed at one time and the one that's in there was partially in place with few screws holding the whole assembly in " dash, dash pad, and dash frame".
I got hold of one of 3 owners they guy whom bought it from just gives me diffrent stories and I have sent a letter to the other owner I hope on of them will respond back? I ask him at first he said he had every thing in box and was stolen"fender tag, broad cast sheet etc." then a year later I ask him again he say he never saw them " fender tag , broad cast sheet" when he purchase the car he told me its a non number matching car.this car was complete when he bought it before I purchased from him.

Thanks again sorry for jibber jabbers
