Regarding the Chrysler 200 Super Bowl ad ...

Did you see it? I guess Eminem is their boy ::) but the question I have is regarding the country where this thing is built. I got the impression that they were saying the car is actually built in the US. They didn't really come right out and say it but there is a definite effort to imply such a notion. Anyway, I assume this is just another Mexican/Canadian-built car but if so, why all the Detroit innuendo?

The commercial told me practically nothing about the car.

I thought it was the best commercial of the superbowl.

I didn't learn anything about the car at all except that it existed (which I didn't know haha).

It was awesome because it was a 180 proof shot of detroit pride harking back to the glory days of the muscle wars.

Personally I'm tired of public sentiment (deserved or not) that american cars are crap and this is exactly the message I want to be hearing from Detroit these days--respect

So maybe the engine came from Detroit, Mexico and the rest was made in Sterling Heights, MI. ::) BFD. And there's only 5 "American" cars on the top ten list of "The Cars.com American-Made Index" and only two of them were Mopars. The Ram and the Wrangler made #7 and #9 while the Camry and Accord made #1 and #2. :rotz: No other "American" trucks made the list. http://www.cars.com/go/advice/Story.jsp?section=top&subject=ami&story=amMade0710

when it comes to trucks. only american trucks can lay claim to being a truck. ford builds the best hands down. toyota trucks are just for people who haul there bikes and stuff home from home depot. but if you need a truck you have to buy american. and that honda thing is just a joke. i have always bought american cars and trucks. never had a problem. as far as american cars being built in mexico. you can thank NAFTA for that shit

same here . I liked the ad, and thought it was well made and with message that came across loud and clear ( at least for me it did ) sound track wasn't bad either

I really liked the commercial as well.  Yep, the 200 is made in Sterling Heights, Mi.

I thought it was a great commercial.  However, I'm bias since Michigan is my home state.  Every year my brothers and I go back and spend some time and money in Detroit going to Tigers games and what not.  The town itself is in a poor state and it really is a sad sight.  They could use any publicity, promotions/help they can get.   :Twocents:

I thought the commercial was dumb. It was to dark so you really couldnt see the car good, and the rest of it I just didnt get :shruggy:

On top of that, I never knew they were even coming out with the car til I saw the commercial. :P

Good commercial, but I cannot relate at all to the pitch man.

here's the ad,..
I'm really surprised they didn't feature the 300, that's the one that's gonna exemplify the sea change of the Corp.
not the 200,..  :shruggy:

Loved that commercial!      Detroit pride!    :2thumbs:

Yeah... the 200 was kind of a letdown... but beats the squaking if it was a 300 that was assembled in Canada.    They should have just flashed to a Chrysler logo.

The problem with that ad is that no one really believes eminem would drive a 200 in real life. Maybe a customized 300, but not a 200.

Actually, no one probably thinks enough about Eminem to care.

I believe this commercial has a certain demographic that will just "get it", while the rest of the world won't. For me, being from Michigan, going to school in Flint, and previously working in Detroit, this commercial really hit a cord with me. As it did with most of my friends from Kettering. Now I watched the Super Bowl in Chicago and the people I was with thought it was terrible. However, if they replaced Detroit with Chicago it would have pulled at their heart strings the same way it did to mine. The only difference is Chicago already has a good reputation in the world. If anything this commercial was the promoting Detroit first and the car second. In that regards it worked like a charm.

Also, this is the distance from Sterling Heights to Detroit

Agreed.  They're still talking about it on the news in Windsor this morning (Windsor being the Canadian border city dependent with Detroit means that whatever happens there happens here).

gtx6970

The purpose of a commercial or advertising in general for that matter . Is to get people talking and / or thinking about your product.
And like it or not,,,,, this commercial hit that nail on the head with a BIG hammer.

Although I'm not an Eminem fan persay. I could listen to ' some ' of his music.
I liked the ad, and I like the looks of the car . But I really liked the message it evokes, Made in America

Pretty much to elude people into believing it's "All-American" car, for those who still believe in America that is.

I liked it but should have been the 300 instead of the retooled Sebring.

It's just a TV commercial.

That means it's designed to do one thing, & one thing only, get people to buy a product. I am not criticizing the car, the car company, the celebrity in the ad, the state it was shot in, or the advertising agency that created it. I'm just stating that this ad is there to get the attention of the target group they're aiming at to spend money. It's no different than running an ad to sell a program for making millions by doing nothing, & targeting people watching fist-fights on talk shows who are broke & out of work.

The only way I'd believe an ad like the one Chrysler ran, is if the company ends up building a car that doesn't blow up for a reasonable price & keeps making it in the states.
