Trouble re-attaching a Carter Carb

I recently rebuilt my carb for a '71 318. I made the mistake of not looking carfully enough at how the accelerator cable and all the other linkage hooked up to the carb. Now when I push the gas peddle it does not come back, it also does not open up the carb. Any ideas or suggestions?

Also is there any suggestions for cleaning out a gas tank. There is currently a layer of sludge at the bottom, I thought of taking the hose to it but thought there might be better way.

Thanks,

62 Max

You have the return spring in the wrong place. It goes over the pin between the two ears on the inside of the stud where your cable is attached.

Your springs are working against each other...pretty much canceling each other out.
(sorry for the dirty pic  )

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

You've got a problem there.  There needs to be a spring pulling the throttle pressure linkage forward.

Are you talking about the tranny linkage? You know, it's been that way as long as I've owned it. It's always shifted fine, so I didn't ever give it any thought.
I surfed the internet tonight & found this page for a slant six, that shows a spring on the linkage...

So yeah, I guess you're right. ;D I'll find a mild-tension spring to put on there, just in the off chance that I ever drive my Charger again. :-\
