A CORONET IS CORONET. 4 DOORS =CORONET. a charger has two doors. and they quit making them in 74. after that just a bad joke. it is a nice car and they ride and handle well. very nice family car, BUT IT IS NOT A CHARGER.

I still don't care for it, just like the last body style. If I needed a 4 door & wasn't worried about MPG I'd still consider it though. I definitely don't view it as any kind of future classic, or collectible, it's simply transportation that might be a lot of fun driving.

1) I was born in November of 1970, so I don't remember much of the late '60s or early '70s, and am definitely not "still in '70s"

2) If I sold my '69 I could buy two of these with cash.

3) Don't you realise you don't need money to buy a car anymore?  All you need is credit.  If I wanted one these, and I don't, I would just trade my wife's fake "impala" in on it, just like most people do.  I doubt very seriously that too many people buy cars with cash or without a trade in these days.

4) I think even you would agree that they could ahve called it a Coronet and had almost no resistance to it, and could have built a more faithful retro muscle car under the Charger name (with two doors).

5) I find it hard to believe that you own a pre 1975 Dodge Charger and actually believe the stuff your typing.....

I made plans to build my own 1969 R/T S.E. a Yr. before you were born. And I would've been far happier if they had named it the "Enforcer" as originally intended. Polara, Atlantic or Monaco were also names I would've been much happier with - as a matter of fact.
Most the folks here are still listening to '70s music everyday some actually made it all the way to G&R or even Mettalica before they proclaimed all new music sucks and they were stickin' with AC/DC. This has been proven in the music threads repeatedly - over and over - till we don't even do music threads anymore...
The neo-Challenger was the Two Door, Retro muscle car they built for those that had to have a two door Retro. machine,.. after they produced and sold 100K four doors as they said they intended from the get go.
The SRT/8 will probably go for Approx. $45-50K and a couple folks here will probably end up with them after they come off lease. (if Gas ain't $5.oo a Gal. by then).
The reason I posted this anyhow was because It's an SRT/8 just released to the public that morning at the Chi-town Auto Show and ALLPAR had the scoop.   Not to piss anyone off,  though most folks obviously would rather get their panties Inna bunch then move on... Know the definition of insanity?..  
 Glad your building your dream and even happier it wont be just another Jennie Lee.

I just read the opening statement in the 1966 Charger Service Manual Supplement. It talks about the new Charger as having sports car styling with luxury appointments.

That's more like an Audi R8 in my mind.

It's interesting how coincidental some things are. A guy at work drives an Audi S4...he said "I don't like mustang fastbacks" when we were discussing cars with a few other employees. Afterwards me and my helper looked at each other and said "what a moron, how can you not like a fastback Mustang? Thank God people like that don't design cars for living. All of us would be driving 4 door Mustangs, GTO's, Corvettes, etc."
And this guy doesn't even have kids to justify owning a 4 door family sedan... Some people.....

Well, since yer yanking, I'll throw ya another bone.  I was the 3rd internet subscriber in the country of Panama back in the early '90s.  I used Netscape version 1.2 (it came on a 3.5 floppy disk).  I dialed into some guys apartment downtown and then he redirected through a satellite dish to an uplink somewhere in Texas (according to him).  It was slow, and there were far less things to find, but was I hooked after the first login.  

By the way, I wasn't talking about all your posts, just the one I quoted.

Oh, and if anything, I'm stuck in the mid '80s to early '90s, if we're talking about music, though I like almost all of what came before then, not too much of what is out now though.          Grew up up forced to watch HEEHAA, but leaned more towards pop/rock of the '70s and '80s gorwing up.  I'll listen to darn near anything pre 1996-ish from classical to metal.

And I love Weird Al......makes me laugh.

But when it comes to cars, there's only one I've ever wanted, and now own.  If they built a new one that more closely resembled it, I would want that too.  I've owned several cars and trucks over the years, of all different makes/models, and used them all for their intended purpose, daily driver.  I don't buy muscle cars for storage space or mileage, I buy them for the looks, the rumble, the speed, for cruise ins and car shows, and flying down the freeway when noone is looking, and yes, for their reputation.  Noone looks at my car and thinks "grocery getter".

The new Challengers are cool but did not have the effect that Dodge thought they would (IE quietting the people who wanted a real, retro charger muscle car).  Even they admitted finally that they did not think the name through, the car was built and needed a name, "Charger" was most recognised by the public.

The D.C.J. Dealer's Assoc. Demanded the car be named Charger when the long lead preview was held after the Daimler Takeover.
So, did anyone see the new Challenger (in the link I posted) in what used to be called Snakeskin Green with the new wheels?.. it's now called "Green with Envy"...

Brock, you of all people know better than this.  Music is written by the young for the young and many of our musical tastes are formed during that coming of age period when you leave your parents restrictions but have yet to take on many responsabilities of your own.  When the headaches of mortgage, kids, crappy jobs, angry spouses, and the unrelenting spectre of aging take over, the music of that youth becomes your personal soundtrack to a time when your life (in your revisionist memories at the very least) was better.  To say the music taste here is stuck in the 70's only proves we mostly came of age with Led Zeppelin for background music in our first apartments.
Although there is likely a good argument to be made for the car being part of this same phenomenon.

2) If I sold my '69 I could buy two of these with cash. Horseshit...Unless it has a pointy nose and big wing or big valve covers with plug wires going through them there isn't a '69 Charger out there that's worth 90 grand.  Period.

The coronet name is lame...the Charger name tested well and that is why they called it a charger.  I hardly think that the 3,000 or so members of dodgecharer.com are really all that important to Chrysler's bottom line.

I own a Hemi Orange '70 Charger R/T  4-speed.  I have also owned a '69 Imperial and a '73 Duster.  I have owned Chryslers since I could drive.  I love the 7th Generation Charger SRT8 and it will probably be the next car I buy.
