Ever Find Large Amounts of Money?

So who has found cash laying around & was able to find the person who lost it?

I was reading a similar topic on the Garage Journal site that reminded me of something that happened recently. Just before Christmas, I was shopping with my wife at the mall for our daughter's present when she spotted folded up bill$ on the floor. It turned out to be a bunch of $20's adding up to $100. She always spots this stuff, like once a year. It must be because she's short & closer to the ground than me. So she asked me what we should do, & I suggested not holding it in the air & yelling out "Who lost $100?" or she'll be mobbed with a bunch of liars.

My suggestion was, since we weren't in a rush, let's get a cup of coffee, sit on the bench nearby, & wait until we see anyone who looks like they might be frantically searching for something on the ground. I doubt that we'd spot someone in a crowded mall, but I have returned lost money once before this way, & ironically just before Christmas at another mall. It didn't work. We hung around for a while, but never saw anyone looking for anything on the floor & eventually left with it.

There were only 2 times I was able to reunite cash that I found to the person who lost it. The time at another mall, was when I was with 2 other coworkers in an arcade. We had lunch, then one guy who loved video games dragged us into the arcade where I spotted a small white envelope with about $50 in it. I laughed & said lunch was free, but a few minutes later I spotted a kid that was about 13 or 14 looking all over the floor like he lost something. I asked him what he was looking for & he said an envelope. I asked him what was in it, & he said money. I said I found an envelope, but if he knew the exact amount, he can have it. He did, so I gave it to him & told him to be more careful.

Another time I stopped for ice cream with my wife when I saw a bunch of bill$ on the ground next to where I parked. It added up to $96 even, & spread out like it fell from a pocket when someone was reaching for keys. We left, but on the way back past the ice cream place, I saw a guy sitting in a lawn chair reading a paper right where I spotted the money. I pulled over & asked my wife if she saw the guy. She said yes, & knew what I was thinking. I turned around & went back, got out & said hi. I then asked him if he sits there a lot, & very puzzled, he said yes, when it slows down enough to take a break.

He owned the place & would sit down outside when he could, so I asked him if he lost anything. He said, I don't know, & checked his pockets. He then said he thinks he lost money & looked worried. I asked him how much, & he said $100 I think. I said it was $96 & close enough. He offered us free ice cream, but we had to get going & declined since we already had some.

When I was around 19 or 20 years old a customer (retail) walked out and left his wallet on the counter.  There was $1,200.00 CAD in there, along with his ID etc.  Grabbed the phone book, looked up his number and left a message that we had his wallet.

He came back later that evening and picked it up and left me a $20.00 CAD reward.   :2thumbs:

My year-old nephew was crawling around his grandmother's house the other day getting into stuff and came back with $500 cash in his hand. She has no idea where it was and didn't know she even had it but he's been invited to do it again.

As a matter of fact, it is the "only over 5000 posts" thread, so go delete your post & come back later when you have enough.

I've only found a wallet twice. First one was empty, no money, no ID, so I tossed it. Now that I think about it, the next time I find a wallet with no ID, I am going to put my ex-boss's name & number in it with some drug buying times & locations in it.  :smilielol:

The second wallet I found, was outside a port-a-john after a concert in NYC while looking for my wife's wallet. There was less than $7 or $8 in it, but there were credit cards & a driver's license from some woman on Staten Island. I found her number calling 411 & she was happy to know it was found. She said to use the money in it for postage & I did. A couple of days later she called me back bitching & complaining that she still didn't get the wallet yet. I told her I sent it, but she still bitched about it & said she was going to call back if she didn't get it. I said good, I hope you do call back so I can tell you I'm glad it's lost again & to go f**k yourself, & hung up on her.

Never did find my wife's wallet & the woman never called back. I wonder if the grumpy bitch in Staten Island had it?

Not a "large amount of money" but a odd and true story.
My Uncles girlfriend was walking across a parking lot when she saw a discarded McDonalds bag that was laying all crumpled up.
She picked it up and started walking it to the garbage can but on the way she opened it and looked around inside.
My Uncle was telling her how weird she was and joked that he would buy her some food if she was that hungry.
All of a sudden she pulls out a wad of bills, totalling $150.00.

I bought a car once and a week later discovered a $100 bill under the cup holder.

Nope, doesn't count. It wouldn't even count if the kid had money in the hand of the arm sticking out.

I bought a box truck once when I had this brilliant idea to get into "vending" and video games...

Well, I got it home and went to clean the box out, when I noticed there was a small pot bellied safe up towards the front.. I opened it and it was stuffed full of coin bags.. I thought "Cool, I can use these!".. They were full!

Needless to say, I bought this at an auction... There was about $500 in coin in there.  :2thumbs:

A few years back my wife and I stumbled on an accident, that just happened. The car had flipped and a 19 year old boy was dead at the scene. There was debris every where from the accident including 20 dollar bills scattered everywhere.....I don't know if he had a stack of 20's laying in the seat or what, but there were several scattered all over the scene. Called 911 and waited on personnel to arrive. Didn't take none of the money though....too creepy.

I found a wallet down in a sewer once in front of my parent's house when I was a kid. It was full of cash & credit cards.
We called the lady, she came to pick it up & gave us a whopping $5 bucks so we all could get ice cream.  ::)

I also found a old crusty scratch-off ticket behind my bathroom vanity while gutting the room during a remodel. Yep, a winner!  :boogie:   A huge $2 bucks!!  :woohoo:   Too bad it was from the '80's.  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

Have only found money 2 times that I can think of. 4 years ago when shopping for an anniversary card and birthday card for my wife (as they are only 2 weeks apart might as well buy both at the same time right so that way I don't forget). I had picked out a card for the anniversary, and in haste just grabbed a birthday card and two envelopes at Walmart. Put the cards in the envelopes headed to the front to pay for them. Got them out to the car and opened them up to actually pen a little note in them and when I pulled the card out of the envelope I saw a $100 bill in the envelope. Went back into the store told them at customer service what I had found they took my name and number. Two weeks went by and no one had claimed it so I returned to the store to pick up my $100.

Other time was when I was in college. We had went to a video arcade and where hoping from game to game. I climed into a racing simulator and played the game. Started to climb out of it and saw a roll of money with a rubber band around it. Took the band off of it counted it and it was $1,800. Went up to the manager and told them I had found some money in a game and asked if anyone had reported losing any. They said "not yet". I stuck around there for 4 more hours with a few friends and not a single person ever came back for their money. Even had them announce it over the intercom a few times.

Other than that nope nothing that I can think of.

Jesus H Christ I can't believe nobody has jumped on this one yet!   :smilielol:

you could have had some fun with this one though.  You could have set up a little table right there and had the wife/girlfriend join you...Some coffee, the paper, you know...  Then when the perps showed up looking for it, you could have made them describe the corpse and then admonished them to be more careful where they leave their shit.  maybe even throw in a "you just can't have nice things"
