Do Nightmare's Come True?

This morning I woke up from a horrible, detailed and graphic nightmare.

I was on an airliner (very large passenger airliner) that was approaching for a landing and a warning buzzer started going off in the cabin.  I recall a flight attendant making a statement that that particular warning meant that we were to evacuate the aircraft as soon as possible, obviously once we were on the ground.  We were approaching the airport and were surrounded by skyscrapers and the plane started to descend at an even pace, albeit a quick one.  I was sitting on the left side of the plane in an aisle seat but could see out the windows of the right side of the plane.  The right wing started to slice through the concrete of the skyscrapers and it was at that time the right side of the fuselage started to rip apart.  It was though the plane was grinding itself to oblivion from the right side inward.  The plane was still moving at an incredible speed and I recall debris flying by, taking out people and seats and the debris starting to hit me in the chest.  At that point I remembered the crash position and leaned forward to put my head between my knees.  I remember thinking to myself on the plane "what went wrong".  It was then that I woke up in a cold sweat.

Normally I would not post something like this however this Sunday I am scheduled to depart for a business trip to the very city that this crash took place in.

I have been disturbed by this all day.

Wonderin' if anyone here has dreamt something like this and has seen it come true?

I recall as a kid having a nightmare that while in the 3rd floor apartment we lived in, a giant bear had broken through the window, reached in with his giant paw, & tried to get me. Hasn't happened yet.

Some years ago I read a rather elaborate study of dreams, where the bottom line was often but not always, bad dreams are practice for emergency situations,.. Seldom do they predict actual out comes - as in seeing the future, They simply give expression to the subconscious or fears and/or hopes. There was a high correlation of flying equaling power, not flying in an airplane flying - but flying without effort.

I haven't flown in well over a decade (no reason other than I've really haven't needed to go anywhere). I used to fly all the time ever since I was a kid, so I've never been afraid of flying. However, about once or twice a month I have a recurring dream/nightmare in which I have to fly somewhere, so:

a) I get on the plane, then decide I shouldn't be on it, get off, and later it crashes

or

b) I get on the plane, I'm nervous, it takes off, I have a bad feeling about it...but I wake up before ever finding out what happens.

A friend of mine who fancies herself a psychoanalyst once told me that it's some sort of allegory for my life as a whole, in which I'm either afraid to make a decision or go through a change...thus I may never find out what happens. But I don't buy it.  Remember the movie La Bamba? Ritchie used to have all those nightmares about dying in a plane crash, and we all know how that ended.

Not that I read too much into these dreams, but I will HAVE to fly a couple of times in the next few months, and I already told the wife and friends I'm going with that maybe they should consider taking different flights...

Way way back in the day humanoids, like animals still do, possessed a very strong sixth sense. It must have been part of the whole survival instinct thingy. I didn't believe any of that nightmare/dream/sixth sense stuff until I was the military......as many of you will agree, serious shit happens down range. We all have that sixth sense but rarely is it tangible enough to act on unless one finds themselves in an extreme fight or flight situation. Over the generations our ability to recognise and react to that sixth sense has faded. Indigenous peoples worldwide are about the last vestiges of modern humanity who still enjoy a working use of this sixth sense.
This concludes my deep and profound dissertation the "sixth sense". hahaha
Back to the real world......I think if a person has a dream/nightmare so vivid in sight, sound and feel and they remember the dream clearly when they wake up maybe its worth giving serious credence to. Our brains have power beyond our imagination and we use so little of it. Ancient peoples were able to access this extra sense naturally as part of daily life. Us modern types not so much.

BTW , great soundtrack as well. Second record I ever bought with my own money (1st one was the Ghostbusters soundtrack) and it was the first time I felt the urge to learn how to play the guitar.

Have you ever been afraid of flying?   :scratchchin:
Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

I wouldn't worry much about it being a premonition regarding your upcoming flight.   You're subconscious is dealing with the business meeting. It's about symbols.  A quick google search turned this up:

".........Flying Using an Airplane or Other Flying Device:  This dream signifies that you feel proud of your accomplishments and that you expect and get recognition and support from those around you.  You are not soaring into the clouds on your own yet, but you feel the freedom that success and respect from others brings."

I would venture to guess the crash is failure of the meeting/trip. Things hitting you in the chest is probably blame, failure, fall out, hurt feelings, etc. (I am not a psychologist - but I did date a psychologist's daughter.)

On the other hand, if your dream is about smelly ass in your face, wake up!  You just landed and the @#$%$#% moron that thought he could be 2ND off the plane from 34D is now standing next to your seat!

Good luck with your meeting.

Flying is the safest way to travel.

Although you might get sexually assaulted on your way to the plane by a TSA official.

The only nightmare I ever had was one of my woodburner catching the chimney on fire. When I woke up I was heading out the bedroom in to the living room where the stove was at, only to see that everything was just fine.

Do nightmares come true??? Get married and you'll soon know the answer to that  :yesnod:

My wife work(ed) at an establishment that offered "dream interpretations" ... The rule of thumb when having a dream that involves death is that NEW life will soon come about... Baby.. New son/daughter in law?

Folks - thanks for the responses.

QuoteI recall as a kid having a nightmare that while in the 3rd floor apartment we lived in, a giant bear had broken through the window, reached in with his giant paw, & tried to get me. Hasn't happened yet.

Bob - glad it all worked out.  I think my nightmare has a better chance of coming true.

Dave - thanks for the input!  Glad I am not seeing into the future here.  Regarding flight in dreams, I was told years ago that flying in a dream (not in an airplane) meat total peace with ones self.  I had a dream like that way back when, when I was 22 years old.

Ponch - Your friends comments on decision or change really struck a chord with me as I have some major decisions to make in the coming months and this trip kinda plays a role in this.

QuoteI think if a person has a dream/nightmare so vivid in sight, sound and feel and they remember the dream clearly when they wake up maybe its worth giving serious credence to.

twodko - there are a lot of times I can rearrange my travel schedule, this is not one of them.  If I could, I would - that's how I felt when I woke up.

QuoteHave you ever been afraid of flying?

Dave - no, I have never really been afraid of flying, well maybe years ago but since then I have logged over 800,000 miles for business.  I, like a fool, find the TV show Mayday fascinating and read too much about aviation disasters.  Perhaps that has something to do with it.

QuoteI would venture to guess the crash is failure of the meeting/trip. Things hitting you in the chest is probably blame, failure, fall out, hurt feelings, etc. (I am not a psychologist - but I did date a psychologist's daughter.)

stripedelete - this trip has no way of failing - a simple meet and greet, cocktails and a steak dinner.  The debris hitting me in the chest, could mean fear of failure in another venture in the coming months.

I only read the title, but I think I get the jests of the topic.

I've had dreams like that before and lately I think it's funny how I've gotten most things in life that when I was 18 I thought I wanted and would be happy.  Anyhow this is your thread and thats another topic.

1.  Your subconcious could be trying to tell you something that your waking mind it refusing to see.
2.  If it's bad, don't believe it and think about it, you don't want it becoming a self fullfilling prophecy.

FWIW, the explanation went something like this:

Getting on the plane, getting off, and watching it crash symbolize being afraid of making the decision/change because you think you will fail or it will go bad.

Getting on the plane and staying on it but not knowing if you make it to where youre going symbolizes a fear of uncertainty.
