Hey gang..
Thought on my day off I'd hit the boneyard.. Well, I'm glad I did.. Scored not one, but two Bendix power brake boosters... Along with that, alot of misc. nuts, bolts and fasteners for my Chargers.....  We al know how hard it is to find these booster, especially in your own backyard.........
I needed a nice day walking through the junkyards.... It's good for the mental health of a gearhead.........
Found this poor '68 Crown Imperial.. Loaded to the hilt... Really digged that rear a/c unit....
Troy

1. The poor '68 Crown Imperial..

I'm sure,,, But try to find a Bendix at your local autoparts store.. Around here, they're non-existant..... You have to have a core and have it rebuild through a service.......

The local yards don't let people wander anymore, it sucks. Well they let you go out but only if they have a car you ask about and then you are escorted. Save the jokes that is the way it is for most people...regulars may go unattended. For some reason Chargers don't last long in the midwest.

I want to live out west so I can walk the fields of rust free rides.

Oh and good to hear you got a score.

Troy, what rebuild service do you use and roughly how much does it cost to rebuild these, I have an old one lying around.

Let me check.. It's been awhile, but there's a guy here locally that had one done.. He had to ship it off, but it came back great.. I think there's someone here in Houston though........

They are some what hard to find if you're missing one.. They were typically used with power disc brake cars and hemi cars with either power drums or disc.. But, the hemi booster were slightly different as most know..........

You may find it very difficult to adapt the rears to your Charger.

Great scrore there Troy. The local yards here won't let you just walk through anymore. You have to go to the office tell them what your looking for then they pull it up on the computer. It sucks.

hemihead

I've worked at 3 salvage yards and I can tell you why people aren't allowed to walk through many any more.It is because of too many" self proclaimed automotive experts" who walk in and have no idea in the least and getting themselves hurt then they turn around , call a lawyer and want money because they got themselves hurt. Then you have what we called the "Weekend Warriors" who are just yuppies who think it is fun to take a yard tour just to look around.  ::)

Why is that? I wasn't planning on swapping out the complete rear, just everything that bolts onto the flanges... There should be some sort of bracket/caliper attachment to the rear... If it's welded to the housing, then forget it.... I need to go back anyways, I found a couple of 15x7 steelies there as well.......    :icon_smile_big:

My daughter (12 yrs) found a 69 Charger in the neighborhood where her friend lives. She came home from her friends house the other night and said: "Hey, dad found an old car just like yours sitting on blocks...." After further interrogation by me, I got the exact location and off I went. I drove by to look at it and knocked on the door. Again, the same old song the woman said: "Not for sale" and just shut the door on me. I'm going back to take photo's and I'll post them. The whole front grill was on top of the roof and the engine was sitting in front of the Charger. Amazing no one has walked away with the grill yet. I wanted to warn the woman to at least put the grill away in a safe place, but was to quick to shut the door. I couldn't really see too much it was dark. The poor Charger was sitting there for a long time. There was a tree about 6" dia. up against the rear and a fence in the front, so the car has not been moved for long awhile. The poor 69 is doomed for death. Wanted to get fender and vin for the registry, but she was kind of unfriendly. I did not have my camera with me, but I'm going back.

She is probably sick of answering that question over and over.  You need to befriend her and show her you are a true fan of the marque.  Take her some flowers and apologize for "upsetting" her.

I think if I had my Charger back on the road, all restored, I would have a better chance. I think once they see one of these Chargers fully restored, they know you are serious and really are interested. I think you gain some respect if they see you driving one. At least it gives you a reason to start a dialogue with them about these Chargers. I'll take pictures of it this weekend. By the time I get off work and drive there, it's too dark.  I would love to see what's under the cover in front of the Charger. Is it a 440 or could it be an elephant? ??? I couldn't really see the doors to see if it had the emblems.

OK, some questions for you Troy....

What kind of car did they come out of?

Do you know much about these as far as if they interchange with different master cylinders?

I am trying to put my '69 440 disc brake car back together with all of the proper items and I would like to source a Bendix booster.

You also mention that most know that the hemi booster is different - how so?

Here is my thread with questions for the board members.

I hate not being able to go into the yards to look around. Sometimes I will find stuff and just buy it because its better than what I have on the car now. If I don't go back I don't know. The one yard I love to go to is all old stuff. They won't let you go back, but if they aren't busy and you know what you want the guy will bring you around to look at the part. Then if you ask to see other stuff he will let you go around and look for parts. He has let me go unattended looking for spindle parts. I don't know what to look for half of the time so those brake boosters are a pretty good score!

I looked at the thread in the Tech Section and I see a photo and

QuoteHere's a Bendix Booster with the disc brake master cylinder... This is a set for power disc brakes...
You'll probably recognize the picture of the T5 Daytona on ebay..

What about the three questions above regarding the boosters you scored at the salvage yard?

What kind of car did they come out of?

Do you know much about these as far as if they interchange with different master cylinders?

You also mention that most know that the hemi booster is different - how so?

What is the difference with the hemi vs. 440 brake booster?  I am interested.

Please let me know when you can.

Thanks Troy.
