trying to select a cam for my backup 440 but have been hearing that the Mopar Performance cam isnt the greatest..........My combo will probably be a mild rebuild with some good power......heres what i am planning:

Edelbrock torquer intake
holley 750 DP
Hooker Headers

I was going to go with the MP 292/.484 cam for a nice lope..........can anyone reccomend a different cam or grind?

Thanks Nick

I personally have not had any joys to MP camshafts....    there are plenty of other cams out there available....   Neil can tell you more

having used both the 474 & 484 cam & with the newer 484 115* CL lcam it is not a bad choice , the other cams I use a lot with good results are the Engles www.englecams.com

BLAM

I am in the process of building a motor for my 68 R/T 4spd.  I have been told by a few good engine builders to buy a comp cams solid stick and use steel roller rockers (not aluminum).  I think what i will do is wait until I know more about the motor and rotating assembly, calculate compression, get head flow #s and then submit cam recommendation requests to the biggies like Racer Brown, Engle etc to get an idea of the cam the engine needs.

Since you already have the key info for your motor I would send in cam grind requests and see what you get back.  It is free and will give you a sampling of ideas from the best.

Upon Neil's recommendation, I used Engle's K56 cam in my 9.5:1 440 with great results.
I had them grind it @ 108 for a little extra lope.

Dont be afraid of the high .501" lift....it has low .224 ยบ duration @ .050

I get great vacuum 13-14" in park compared to the crappy 8-9" with the .484 MP cam I used to have

I agree with the Engle cams also.

I went with a K56/K58 on a 110 LSA using Chryco's advice in my 9.5 to 1 440 and love it. Perfect lope for me and the power is right where I wanted it.

Just about anything is better than MP. I like Crower hydraulics for a mild street engine. Engle also has some nice street friendly grinds. The key is picking the right one for the engine combo with consideration to the stall converter, rear end gears and tire diameter.
