Hi friends, I saw a pic of someone's friend's car that was a Hemi GTX in B5 blue and a white top the other day and cannot find it even using the  search button here!  Kinda a newbie at this search function and about an hour of searching and came up empty. Mine is, obviously, not the same color but did come from Ma MOPAR with those hubcaps.

I have the same hubcaps listed on my buildsheet and actually have a full set of them still in the Chrysler box as an option of installing them when I am about ready to complete the restoration. I still have all 5 date coded original wheels to put them on. They were black originally and will be again, instead of body-color as the small hubcaps had.

Can someone please repost this pic and help me decide to use them instead of aftermarket wheels  on the Charger as I can only hope they look as good as the pic. I have lost contact with the original pic for now.

Thanks again,   Carl

Carl,
Are you referring to the full wheel covers that came on the 15" rims when optioned with the 426 Hemi? If so, these are '68's, but the '69's are similar. I'm looking in my folders too for the '69 version. But, they are very similar if not the same.

Looks like you can see the wording "disc brakes" or "disk brakes"..

Hi Troy,

I haven't actually unpackaged the full set but once and put them away after looking for shipping dents (none found) but they do look like that a lot! Probably the same as I believe they were on '68 and , maybe, '69 C bodies with 15" wheels too.

Anyway, thanks again a lot and that does look like them. I did get lucky enough to get NOS ones though but I am a little scared to drive it with them on the car. Should I try to put those on the car and give it a more original look or do you think I should go aftermarket, probably Cragar's with the classic look. The centers are not shown real well in the photo but, in person, they are red I believe and with redline tires, as mine also came stock with, they look pretty nice to me. Still trying to decide which way to go and your opinion does mean a lot to me.

By the way, that '68 does look really nice with the hubcaps!

Carl,
The centers of the wheel covers were different for the drum versus disc brake cars. Cars with disc brakes had the wording of "disc brakes" on them in a circular pattern (or something like that). The drum cars had nothing. If it were me, I would keep the 15" rims in black and have the original style full wheel covers set to the side for shows like Autorama and the such. But, you being like me, will probably want to drive it. I think the car would look AWESOME with a set of 15x7 or 15x8 Magnum 500's all the way around. Maybe get some raised white letter radials (minimum of 255's all the way around) or the redline 255 redline radials that are out there...

I found this on the net. Just one tough lookin' '69.. Would look great with your white interior and top..  Also, I added another wheel cover picture I found on my 1st reply... '68? You referring to my '68? You know I don't have it any more?

Yep, the Charger originally had manual drum brakes all around and the original hubcaps, and the ones I got, did not have the lettering on them.  I think it would look really nice original but the Magnums would also give it that "Chrysler Corp." tough look too. You just cannot go wrong with the magnums but .... a lot of cars with them and few seen with the original hubcaps. Scary also driving a car that might throw a hubcap if I get on it a little ! Gotta try that 588hp HEMI out every once in a while too! Ha Ha. Yes, it is 30 thousand's over to make it 431.5 cu.in. now but that is a real dyno number and was climbing more when we shut it down. Gonna be fun to floor the "loud pedal" every now and then!

My caps do not have the disc brakes written in the centers like your second pic does.

I also know you haven't had the '68 for a while and have the Daytona now. Nice trade and hard to make but you have always wanted to have a Daytona and that is a real beauty! A very nice upgrade for you but letting go of the '68 Hemicar must have been hard, though.

I will drive mine and hope to have it ready by this late Spring or early summer. Painted already and the R6 looks amazing now! When you see it, I am sure you will approve !!! White top and stripe and all-new white interior will make it an amazing Charger.

I do remember someone posting a pic of a friend who had a B5 GTX back in the day that had these hubcaps. I just cannot find it right now !

That is one great looking GTX but, ...... it has painted wheels and dogdish hubcaps! Not what I was looking for a picture of as it had the full hubcaps in the pic and was a hardtop!  Yours was and is a great looking GTX and the  GTX is cetainly one of my favorites!

Guess I will wait a while more as that pic is bugging me a little that I cannot locate it.

Carl.
You could also get a set of 15x8 steel wheels, paint them black and install the wheel covers. The wheel covers don't have to be limited to thin 6.5 wide rims.. Soooo, you could get the original, yet-different-not-like-everyone-else, look. Sort of the best of both worlds...... You definitely want to fill those wheel wells up...  :icon_smile_big:

Thought about going that route too and maybe so, but how do you keep from dinging them just putting them on and taking them off? Kinda in a little bit of a quandry if I use the NOS hubcaps for other than "showing" the car.

If you get the proper hubcap remover, then you shouldn't have any problems...  You will probably take them on and off infrequently...

Yeah,  the right tool always works best !!  :icon_smile_big: Maybe I will see how it looks just driving around with the bigger black wheels and chrome 69 1/2 RR lugnuts.  I already have a set of those but think the magnums would look a lot better on a red and white Charger.

daveco,

Great job as I knew I had sen that picture before but, just could not find it again.  That is definitely the picture of the GTX in question. My Charger came with those hubcaps as confirmed by the buildsheet and I just cannot make up my mind about putting them back on the car! You see a very few of them but they still look great on that GTX!

Now, a decision to be made. Do I use them or not? Got 'em if I choose to and would be an expensive waste not to use them. That said, the look of old-school Cragars on there is hard to beat!

Thanks again for finding the picture, daveco !!!

That is a great pic, daveco even if it is R4 instead of R6 which mine is and is darker.  Thanks again.
