Is there anything more annoying than someone slamming your door?

I was in the garage this morning for a minute with my 10 year old and she slammed the door on the Charger.  I can't get mad, she's ten and she isn't into cars.  I gently explained that she shouldn't slam the door on the Charger and then I cme here to do my venting.
Thank you all, I feel better now.  :icon_smile_tongue:

You need to drop her with a 2x4 next time.  My 8 yr old is real bad about slamming all doors.  I feel your pain but I have a feeling that most here with kids have the same problem.

I know, that's why I did my whining here.  Really I'm just glad that she wants to follow me into the stinky old garage in the first place.

I yell at anybody who slams my doors, especially if the glass is down. I tell them close it firmly but dont slam.

If slamming the door is the worst damage she implies on your charger in all the years she is around it . . I would be all good with that.  Wait til she rides by on her bike and puts a large scratch down the side . . .  :brickwall:

I get upset when my oldest son slams the door in my pickup.

My wife & kids are big time offenders of door slamming.....not in the '69 though....they know not to touch anything on or in the car ;)

LOL!
I had JUST finished the passenger door assembly and was showing my ten year old son how nicely the door opens and closes when I tell him to try.........

He gives it a full extension, earth shattering, window shaking almighty SLAM!!!
I look at him , he's looking like a severely beaten puppy, so I just say "lets not do that again"  :smilielol:

The other item that get me is when people drop thier ass on the seat instead of just sitting down in the car.

Another item is when people don't close the door all the way and then decide to use thier hip to finish shutting the door. A ex room mate did that to my truck and put a really nice crease in the door.

How about resting feet on the dashboard?? I cringe anytime I see that, even when it's not in my car.

Feet on the seats, or even worse, dragging them across the sills when getting in the car.  :flame:

And, I'm not even directing this at kids. There are adults that do this!

I think with some folks who have never been in/out much older cars they aren't used to the weightiness of the door momentum while closing it. Also that the old cars are not sealed so well like modern cars where that if you don't sometimes put a little effort into closing it, the built up air pressure inside only lets it close up partially.  At least when the wife or whoever is getting in and it happens I can remind them  :slap: YOU DON"T HAVE TO SLAM THE DOOR.  It's when someone is leaving with an attitude and does it, that grates my nerve  :flame:  With young kids, well stuff just happens sometimes and you got keep an eye out for it.

oldgold69

putting feet on the dash irks more than  slamming the door  its as bad as slamming the hood

twodko

Door slamming, ass closing partially open door, feet on dash, plopping into a seat.........all bad juju. Happy to help kids with the "why" of it, adult offenders must be keel hauled. No excuses....take the bus.

Same here.  Both my kids shut the charger door absolutely perfect.  Click/click.  Nice.   Trained them well.  In fact we kid around of who can shut it the lightest without it not making the full close?  The Honda Pilot gets slam/slam from all members of the family except me.  :icon_smile_big:

I had to re-train all the members of my family in all of the various ways to enter/leave open/close and generally behave in my new Challenger R/T, including how to close the trunk without shattering the taillights.
Then the car got vandalized, and I was back on meds right after that. :rotz:

My friends now ex girlfriend would use her foot to kick open the door (from the inside) after using the handle.  After he got on her about it, she rolled her eyes and acted like it was no big deal.  You know how it is, us poor silly men and are machines.

terrible one

How about when someone let's go of the lap belt and sends it flying into your doorpanel?  :brickwall:

Of course, owning a car like the General Lee, your gonna catch a certain amount of this....
However, my youngest son with the '66 plymouth? Well, I had JUST finished adjusting the doors, shimming door hinges, adjusting strikers, etc. and had those 40 Y/O doors shutting like cake, when I told him to come look see. First thing he did (Not understanding of course), slammed the hell out of the door..I got hot. Said "Son, why do you feel like you need to try and put the door on the other side of the car?"

He says "sorry, I didn't reallize it was THAT easy to shut"...I simply said, "ok, now YOU get that door to shut again like I had it shutting"...
He never slammed the doors again and even BEFORE any of his friends even get close to the car, he is on 'em about slamming the doors because of the PITA it was to get the door "right"...

Another thing that gets me is the people that have eyes in their fingers...They cannot look at something without touching it..You know the types I'm referring to here. They come up to your ride with that look of "Well, lemme see what can I pick at, break, or generally screw up on THIS one"...

When I had the G L out one time, I had this guy and I guess it was his girlfriend or whatever, looking at it when she proceded to pick at my decals...
I heard him say "hey! Don't do that, you don't know who's car this is, and it isn't yours"...I had to walk up and shake his hand after I heard that...

Another one that gets me hot is the people that get into your car only to reallize they forgot to get the cell phone out of their pocket and rare up with their back on the back of the seat and you see them almost stretched out straight hoping it doesn't break..

On my Satellite I don't have a door handle on my passenger side door, so nobody can open the door to slam it.

Those as well as sitting on any of our cars are my biggest pet peeves.   My son has a Monte Carlo, with those big heavy doors, and i finally have him trained that it only takes a finger to shut the door on the Coronet.

GTXtreme

I get pretty heated when people touch or lean on the car! If your that tired and you can't stand up on your own go sit in traffic!

I had a grind teeth moment when my 68 was getting filmed for a tv ad. The director instructs the "talent" to see how fast they could get in and shut the door on the passenger side while Im at the back of the set. So they set it up with passenger seat forward 5,4,3,2,1, action and clown #1 jumps in the back and slams that seat back so hard I swear it nearly broke the mounts. Then clown # 2 jumps in and slams the door.

I ran onto the set over to the director past the car wrangler and stood in front of him eye to eye and said 'that only happens once, no seats pulled back no door slams, thats it or we're done"
He had the grace to look sheepish and apologised but the woman 2nd director was more concerned that I approached the hallowed inner circle of his directorness.

Anyway, the rest of it went ok and they even used that shot in the ad, took me a while to calm after that though

Putting feet up on the dash is particularly rude.  And for some reason passengers sometimes push the Charger's door shut by the window.   :icon_smile_angry:

my wife used to do that with our Pontiac....until I told her to stop.....the Pontiac's door is way bigger & heavier than the Charger's doors....I was afraid of the window breaking when she used that to close the door

jb666

it's one of my pet peeves... If I give someone from work a ride, and they slam my door I ALWAYS say "What did that door ever do to you??". They wonder why their cars are all falling apart, too...
