Fender Tag Issues / Questions?

My 69 project did not come with the RIGHT fender tag.  The VIN on the dash is for the car as during the restoration process we can tell the dash has never been out of the car.  That "dash" VIN is for a 69 Charger 383 (290 hp) car assembled in Hamtramck, MI

Is there anyway to find out what the fender tag should say and get a replacement?  I've completely change the car now so it doesn't matter but I am still curious.  Might be nice to know what it was originally.

Now the Tag that came with the car (and whose VIN serial number doesn't match my car?) is also for a 69 Charger 383 (290 hp) but the car was assembled in St. Louis, MO.  So I guess somewhere in it's life the fender tag was lost or stolen and another 393 (290 hp) was obtained, your guess is as good as mine.  Not sure why someone would want a 393 (290 hp) fender tag.

The fender tag that doesn't go with my car reads as follows:

M21 M31 R11 V1W 26 END
B51 C16 C55 G33 H51 L31
F8 C6G F8 B13 119006
E61 D32 XP29 G9G 166696

Anyone know what this means?  My VIN & TAG knowledge is limited to the few front pages of Year One's catalog... :icon_smile_big:

It also came with a second fender tag that says "Special Handling Car".  Both of these fender tags were stripped and painted the color of the restoration before I got it.  I am building a part-time General Lee so that might be cool to put where the real fender tag would go... :smilielol:

Did you check the stampings on the rad support and trunk lip? Maybe those are the right tags....

I don't understand, the fender tag could be correct even though the VIN serial# on the fender tag doesn't match the VIN serial# on the dash?

This car bottom of the rad support was fairly banged-up so we replaced that (didn't think to look there).  Where would I look in the trunk?

UFO

It's on the upper rad support offset to the drivers side and on the trunk rail under the weatherstrip on the drivers side.If you run your finger underneath you can usually feel the stamping. The weatherstrip will have to be peeled off to read it.

I agree.  You need to determine if the rad. support & trunk lip #'s (will have the last 8 of the VIN#) match the dash VIN or the fender tag #.

Well I can tell you that the tag is new to me in the Registry....do like others stated & check the partial VIN stamps on the radiator support top & the trunk weatherstrip area to determine which # is correct on your car....

also what was the original color of your car?

Also please take the time to register your car if you havent already

My project car was originally brown in color and a column shift (no console) so these fender tags can't be from it.  I am sure whoever the owner of that car is (if it's still around) would love to have them back.

Which would explain why you might have the wrong fender tag.  Years ago it must have been in an accident & these inner/outer fenders were used from another car, fender tags' & all.

If the bottom rad. support needed replacing, the top may have been as well when the fenders were replaced meaning the trunk lip rail may be the only other #.

Too much speculation, need to check those other #'s & go from there.    :shruggy:

I am wondering the very same thing about my car- Is there ANY way to get a fender tag made from your VIN#? My car is a Hamatrack car too, and a 383, but thats really all I can tell........
Also, does anyone have pics of these # locations on the Rad support or in the trunk area?
Jason.
