RIPPED OFF BY A MOPARTS MEMBER!!! **Good Guy Alert**

I don't know where else to post this, so I'm posting it under General since this area gets the most hits.

I've never had to call out another member from something like this.
I don't like to have to do this, but I feel this is a last resort as I am getting no response or resolution from this person.

Back in October, I contacted Moparts member 340dart4spd (a.k.a. Richard Brann), about a '70 Charger/Coronet R/T door scoop emblem he had advertised as "NOS". He had a photo of it in the ad, and had it advertised as having "one small scratch". I contacted him, and he sent me additional photos. It looked good in the picture, and he said it was NOS. He was also looking for some used plastic backings for these emblems, & I had an extra that was very nice with mint pins on the back. We worked out a deal for his "NOS" emblem with a trade for a nice, used backing and additional cash. I sent him the part and cash, & he sent me the emblem.

Finally towards the end of December I received the emblem. What I received was a USED emblem that looked like it was dragged across driveway gravel. The pins on the backside look like they were smashed with vise-grips. Definitely NOT a NOS emblem he had as advertised.  After several emails back & forth he tells me, "I will do what's right to make it right...", and then tells me "I will send yours back and 20.00..sorry for the mishap......"

That was back on January 4th. I contact him twice more, and he responded on the 11th "sorry bill.. I travel so i didnt get you message til today..... I will get thiat out to you asap."  It is now February 4th & I STILL haven't gotten anything back from him or heard a reply, despite me emailing him several more times.

So, how about it, Rich?? What's the deal? I'm not looking to cause trouble or ruin anyone's rep here. I just want what he said he was going to do: make good on it. I've bought & sold many parts from members on forums, never have I had a bad outcome like this.

Sorry for the rant.

Ok... I understand why you are mad... But why put a post here, when it happened on Moparts?  And you are asking for a resolution here?  Is he a member here as well?

bill440rt

Venting on here. This forum is close to home for me.
It'll go on Moparts next. Where I'll probably get kicked off afterwards for calling a member out.

I don't see the problem. Lots of people that are members here are members there too so a heads up isn't going to hurt anything.

Bill, maybe you could post the pics he sent you and pics of what you got. I'd like to see this.

Bill thanks for the warning about this looser. There really is no excuse for what happened, he clearly is just a #$%^&*(!!!  :flame:

Sorry to hear it Bill, hopefully he will step up and straighten it out.

Thanks for listening, guys. I see it's been moved over here. That's OK though, I kinda though it would.

No, I've never been banned from Moparts, at least not yet. I don't post/answer many topics over there, mostly just read the threads.

Here are some shots of the emblem that I received. It looks worse in person, just hard to get a camera angle. There are numerous scratches across the face of it.

bill440rt

Here are the pins. They look like they've had speed nuts on them, plier marks, or something.

Now, don't get me wrong. All in all it is a decent, USED emblem. But, NOS it is NOT, even if it was advertised as having "only one small scratch".

I sent him an emblem with a bad overlay and a nice backing, and what I got was a damaged overlay and a damaged backing for an NOS price. That's not eye-for-an-eye as I see it.
Again, I'm not looking to make waves or ruin anyone, I just want him to keep his promise of a partial refund. That would make things fair for both parties, and it would be a fair price for a decent used part.

Since he does not answer emails anymore, I sent him a PM last night again thru Moparts. If I get no response, you'll see this over there.

Should I add a poll to see if I get kicked off??  :D

A lot of members on Moparts are also on DC.com so it makes sense to post it here to warn others. Anything that has dragged out this long, October to February, is inexcusable unless the dragging party in the transaction kicked the bucket. I bought parts from Bill about a year & a half ago & thought things went smoothly. Granted that I went in person in case I ended up with large sheet metal parts, but the parts I bought were just as described & I wouldn't hesitate to buy again based on his description & word that he'd ship it.

I, too, have bought from Bill.  Stand up guy and stuff is always better than described.  Granted, since he lives so close, I always go in person to pick up the stuff (plus it gives me a chance to see in person how his projects are coming along).  Aside from being a stand up guy, Bill does fantastic work on cars!

Clearly not New Old Stock and Bill would not have been interested had he seen similar photos to his own. :scratchchin: The time frame dragging on for many months is as big of an insult as the condition of the part to me.

Bill -- As you know I've bought a LOT from you. I would recommend you to anyone, and I've NEVER been disappointed with the item(s) I've purchased. In most cases, you down play what you sell.

Quite often, I think you set the standard and I expect this from others... but seeing a dead beat like this give you the run around infuriates me.....

Good luck

Thanks again for the support here, guys. I always know I can count on everyone here, especially for a laugh!  :smilielol:

Thank you also for the compliments and your trust in me, but I'm NOT here to say "oh, my parts are great and his suck", just that when you bring things like this to the attention of other members, you tend to get results.
Fact is, although I do sell parts once in a while, I'm not a dealer and a lot of the stuff I sell I've had for years anyway.

The offer he did make to me is quite fair, and is agreeable and would make our transaction a level playing field. I'd just like him to keep his word.

So, no response again. I guess up on Moparts it goes, look under the General section. I wonder if they'll let me stay?  :scratchchin:

Over on Moparts now.
Looks like there are some in favor over there as well. Also got a few pm's from other members also that had some bad dealings.

Bob, the tangent was that everyone there started talking about post counts.  Post counts are pointless as someone stated someone could have thousands of postings and still be a scum bag or you could have one post and still be a scum bag.  That is the whole reason why I rarely frequent moparts to post anymore.  Before this site got back up, I was over there all the time only to be bashed in the A-12 resto section because I did not have an A12 car yet my questions pertained to generic B body stuff that A 12 cars had.  Also, when I had a posted topic, people would start a tangent topic in the thread and the whole main part of the topic was lost and everything became a pissing match.

Back on topic here for Bill.  Glad it seemed to get the thread back on topic on moparts for ya Bill.   :2thumbs:

Well, happy to say I did not get banned, but the thread did get locked.  :icon_smile_dissapprove:
At least the seller contacted me & posted on the thread saying he would make it right. Guy says he had a heart attack, which I don't like to hear about ANYONE, but if you look at his post history he's posted stuff all thru the month of January.  :scratchchin:

I'll keep you posted how this pans out.

OK, ok.
So the seller 340dart4spd from Moparts still has not came thru on his word to make things right. It's been about a week.  :flame:  :popcrn:

HOWEVER, a seller with the Moparts ID azmopar came thru with a genuine NOS emblem. I got it at a very fair price, and he was more than helpful with photos and an accurate description. I wish more sellers were like him. Great guy to deal with. Highly recommended in my book.

Shame they locked it over at Moparts so you can't update it.   Nice to see that they care about how members there are getting screwed. :brickwall:

No, not at all.  I ordered some nice NOS parts for my 69 T&C from Arizona parts (Mopar) nice guy, good stuff, good price.  The package arrived, I opened it, the packing material was an empty lunch size chip bag, etc.... really.... made me laugh!!
