my challenger has what appears to be a dana 60  9 3/4 , dont know what size gear is in it but i do know its killing me on gas, its running about 3200 rpm at 60 mph , sounds like my engine is gonna blow on the open highway , my question is what other gear sizes can i use in it to get the rpm down and better gas mileage ?  can you get  a 3:23 gear for a 9 3/4 dana 60 ?

3.54 is the lowest choice, if its 3200 at 60 my guess is you have a 4.10 in it now.

Supercharged Riot

I have a Dana 60 with 4:10 gear and I know for a fact that my car does that many RPMs at that speed.
At least you can peel out easier   :D

Seriously though, I'm looking for more highway friendly gear ratio.  I heard 3:23 has a good balance

ok thanks for the info. , i do most of my driving on highways and it cant be good on my new rebuilt engine and cant pass by a gas station without stopping

one more thing i know its a dana 60 but how do i make sure its a 9 3/4 ? what i went by so far is that is has 10 bolt pattern, anything else ?

Rear end ID guide. The Dana 60 will have a series of numbers stamped in the passenger side axle tube that will identify the application and gear ratio.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I really like the 3.23 ratio I recently installed. I cruise 100kph (62 mph) at 2400prm and it sounds and feels like it's where's it supposed to be.
Mind you, I did just swap it out from an 8.25 with 2.71's but it feels much better none the less.
Gotta love a '69

Factory Dana's either had a 3.54 or 4.10.

Not sure if the aftermarket makes a higher (lower numerically) gear than a 3.54    :scratchchin:
