Can anyone tell me where the part number for the K member is stamped?  I was cleaning up th eone from my 69 and I came to the conclusion that it's not the original one.  I compared it to the one on my cousin's 73 Cuda and the 68 Charger I have, and it looks identical to one in the Cuda.  The difference I noticed was where the sway bar brackets mount to.

The part number isn't stamped in the k-member, on certain years a "coin" was welded to the k-member with the last two digits of the part number.

Check out the Schumacher site for pics of various k-members, scroll down the column on the left:

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

That would explain the oval plate welded to the K frame with a "12" on it.   It definitley is a 70-72 B Body/70-74 E Body K member then.   I guess I'll have to go pull the other Charger up and pull the K member off that.   Thanks for the link to the website, lots of good info there.

Edit:  Can I just drill the holes in the front of the K member I have for the 69 Charger Sway Bar setup?  There are no other physical differences that I can see.

iti is a Lot less work to either drill out holes for the old style sway bar or use the newer style sway bar than replace the K frame

Replacing the K frame at this point is no biggie since the car is completly diassembled now.  But if drilling the holes will work, I'll just do that then instead of spending money on another K frame.  The only thing I would need to get then are the sway bar mounting plates, which I can get from a junkyard.

I'd leave your k-member on and use the newer sway bar. It will let you mount the calipers on the front which will allow for easier hose routing if you decide to do a disc brake conversion. If the k member was swapped than hopefully the lower control arms were changed too.

After sandblasting and cleaning the K frame I removed from the car, it appears that it has both sets of sway bar mounting holes already drilled in it.  I already have the disc spindles for it all sandblasted and ready to be painted.  I'm going to use the 69 type sway bar on the car, since I can get a nice beefy one from Hotchkis.  I found the original mounting brackets for the 69 style bar in a crate of parts I got when I bought it.  The lower control arms have the sway bar link mount on them already.  I should have the whole assembly rebuilt and ready to go in a few weeks so long as the funds allow it.
