Looking for a one wire 100+ amp alternator that will fit my stock brackets and line up without any mods? Is there one out there?

bull

If you Google it you'll find some, but so far all I see is chrome ones.

Tuff stuff alts gives you polished option for 100 amps alts ( squarebacks ) one wire.

HOWEVER... I bet you don't need 100 amps alt. In fact NOBODY needs 100 amps alts. Popular 100 amps alts selection consist on get better power at iddle, the best performance at lower RPMs. I asked to Tuff Stuff ppl about their amps and they told me put around 45 amps at iddle, what is still not enough for me, on transit an AC at nights ( even worst if raining )

if this 60/80 amps is for real, will be the best option if you ask me.

Comments: Lot of questions, please try to answer everyone of them.

Its for a 1974 Dodge Charger 400 4bbls engine

1- its your 80/60 amps alt squareback EARLIER style ? I ask because there are 2 kind  of squareback alts, earliers with stator magnet visible  72 and I think up to 76  and laters with stator magnet hidden inside both cases  I think from 77 and laters . These laters ones have small clearence issues to fit on Big Block engines, so I would be interested on the 80/60 squareback EARLIER kind.

2-what RPMs do you have set the iddle to get 60 amps ? 1700 RPMs at alt will mean around 900 RPMs on engine and I would like to set my engine on 800-900 RPMs  1500-1700 RPMs at alt

3- whats the difference between an stock alt and one of your high output alts? stator ? rotor ? Diodes bank ? There is a chance to get just the parts required to get 60 amps at iddle and then I build by my own my alt  I have the tools and have rebult many times alts for me and friends . I'm an overseas buyer what even with USA shipping address, I'm still trying to save some of the cost and shipping getting just the required parts to upgrade mine. Even better if is made to fit on earlier kind squarebacks alts. As far I know the BIGGER diff on this build is the stator.

Thanks and looking fordward to get from you what I need to get the nice 80/60 amps rate on my alt, as far is posible to get 60 or closer as posible amps at around 800 RPMs on engine.
Nacho.

We are using the earlier squareback case with the stator exposed. We test for idle output at 750 engine RPM with a 3:1 pulley ratio. The early style Chyrsler alternators are very difficult to get to 80 amp and we usually have to match rotors and stators more than once to get the correct pairing. We would not sell the components separately. Thanks for the inquiry.

then asked again:

3:1 pulley ? double V groove ? whats the diameter for those ?, my car is AC.

mmmm... I'm looking forward to get from you this alt though... waiting for some money to proceed.

Thanks.
Nacho.

got this answer:

A 3:1 pulley ratio would be like a 6" crank pulley with a 2" alternator pulley (6 divided by 2 = 3) The pulley on our single or double V groove pulleys on the Chrysler units are 2.6" in diameter. That would mean that you would have a 7.8" crank pulley to get the specs we supply.

One question... how much is the diameter for a stock alt "small" pulley ? as far I did know they were 1.9:1 ratio pulleys, but not sure about the diameter

I just measured my pulleys and they are:
Crank, 7 3/8"
Alt, 2 3/4"

that would never give me a 3:1 ratio

That should give you app 2,7 :1 ratio
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

Nacho-RT74

You mean with the "new alt" I guess... the actuall setup will never give me that :P and it looks really is what I had told, 1.9:1

frederick

How did you get the 1.9:1?

If you divide 7 3/8" by 2.6 I get 2.84:1
And 7 3/8"divided by 2 3/4" is 2.68:1

Nacho-RT74

never calculated before LOL ( bummer )... I think maybe de 1.9:1 it is with the earlier alt pulley ??? I read that ratio, but never measured or calculated my setup before

another option drifter69

45 amps at 600 engine RPMs is GRRRREAT. Will mean maybe around 60 at 800 what is mostly of times the stock RPMs

but Damn! once again, chromed!! I don't like chromed!

I sent a messagge if they can sell a casted or polished unit, double pulley

( or maybe just internals required for high output )
