I just bought a new Circuit Board for my gauges.  It has a built in voltage limiter.   My old circuit board the voltage regulator had to be pushed into a few slots, and then to the left of that there is another "thing" that also plugs into those same holes.  What is this thing, and do I need to some how connect it to the new circuit board.  It looks like a small barrel with a wire that comes off of it.   :shruggy:

The other "thing" is a capacitor.  I believe its there to help with radio interference.

Thank you for the reply Ghoste.

The capacitor will not work with my new circuit board.  Do you suggest me cutting the end of the capacitor and placing another end on it so I could connect the two.  Or just get a new one

If you have a new Space Age traansistorized volt limiter you don't need the capacitor. It was used to catch the spikes from the points style limiter.

The circled objected was the "thing" I was talking about

And this is my new Circuit Board..

That is a condensor and is not needed once you get rid of the points style limiter. It was used to store the spike of energy from the opening of the points to keep from damaging the system.
