What causes turnsignal indicators to glow when the parking lights are on? I know this is a fairly common problem.

I'm thinking a bad ground somewhere, but where?

Both my instrument panel indicators and hood mounted indicators glow when the lights are on. The glowing stops when the turnsignal is in use, but resumes momentarily after the turn signal cancels.

Are all of your lights in good shape and not burned out? If there all in goo shape. Then you'll have ti start tracing the wires and checking the grounds. The best way is to take each conection apart and clean it with a small wire brush. Then put it back together and go to the next. It can get very time consuming. Dont forget under the dash.

Ya, mine do the same thing when I play with the dimmer. I am sure my grounds are crap right now.  all my bulbs are brand new. Ah, 35 year old wiring........

Well I just got done replacing just about everything BUT the lighting harnesses... New dash harness. New engine harness.

Bad ground.
Sometimes the sockets  are the cause of the bad ground.

If it's a bad ground, I'd guess it's probably on the tail lamps.

Get yourself a long wire with clips on each end.  Clip one to the battery negative terminal.  Use the other to touch the bulb base at the socket or wherever you suspect a bad ground. When the light stops glowing you will have found the problem

Good tip.

I cleaned-up the grounds on the tail lamps today, but the glow persists. Only place left is the front turnsignals.

For what it's worth my 73 had the same issue with the fender mounted turn signals. Finally found out that the rubber gasket under the light has a metal peice formed into it. Dirt had gathered in there over the years and interfered with the ground from the light housing to the body. Cleaned it up and now it works like a champ. Always wondered why it worked for half a day or so after I washed the car. I may have found a way to look for bad grounds...hehe

we had the same problem   turned out to be the socket in the front turn signal  Ken

There is some good stuff in this thread. I recently started having a glowing right turn signal indicator on the dash after I plugged in my front turn signals/parking lights. I haven't had time to debug it but that seems to be a common denominator, bad grounds in the front turn signals.
