just thought i would see if there are any trap shooters on here i just got recertified by the AGFC as a trap instructor for the 2011 season, my daughter shot thru our high school team for 2 years and now my son gets to start shooting this year. we have a have a junior team 6th thru 8th grades and a senior team 8th thru 12th grades. if you shoot trap what is your preferred firearm?

Charger_Fan

I'm not into it, but I've done it a few times. :icon_smile_big:
I know, I know, that's absolutely no help :spank:. :icon_smile_tongue:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

gtx6970

haven't shot trap  in years. But I still have my old  Remington 870 in the gun safe

moparguy01

we never had teams where I was from. But I enjoy going out . I just use my Browning BPS Gold pump.

stripedelete

I like to shoot clay pigeons one at a time.  Is that trap or skeet?

Shot sporting clays once and had a ball.

the bps is the best shooting shotgun I've ever owned which is why it's been the firearm I have owned the longest. And I'll never sell mine. Keep in mind I've owned probably 20 different shotguns.

Hey this might sound a dumb question but here in Oz, unless you're a licensed roo shooter or similar, you can't just own shotguns etc. (different if you're a member of a sporting club of course)
My question is this. Unless you shoot for sport, are there any other reasons why you would need firearms over there in the US?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not personally anal about guns like some are, and I'm not bagging the idea either.
Just wondered if the gun laws there are a lot more relaxed than here?

as far as reasons for owning guns for me personally I enjoy hunting, I volunteer teaching trap at my sons school and enjoy that immensely , and enjoy target shooting with rifles and pistols for fun, although like our old cars its getting more and more expensive to do so. our gun laws are probaly a bit more relaxed than oz but its a constant battle with our lawmakers for us to keep them.

Are you being serious or just stirring the pot?

gtx6970

Owning a gun in the USA is a right - called ' right to bear arms'

I don't think gun laws are nearly as relaxed in  compared to other countrys as they are in the US. Whether thats a good or bad thing is debatable.

I own guns ( several actually ) mostly handguns . But I haven't shot anything in close to 10 years. I used to do hand gun target shooting a couple times a week. shot trap a few times a year and on a rare occasion hunting but my wife doesn't like wild game food so there hasn't been much push to ' get out there' so to speak. Bowling pins shoots with a 15 round 9mm is fun, But using a 45 or bigger is probably a better choice.

I live in a completely different country and I'm just interested is all.

So GTX and vancamp, do you all need a special license to hunt, I'm guessing deer, rabbits or whatever it is you do hunt? (that's after you already have your gun licenses)
Here farmers can obviously own firearms to kill or scare predators from their livestock, but can you for example, shoot bears and wildcats for no other reason than for sport?
Like I said, I'm just curious and probably sound ignorant, but we have completely different sets of wildlife to each other.
I'm sure I'd like to partake if I ever travel to your side of the ditch too.

ACUDANUT

Why would you shoot something in a trap...Kinda like shooting fish in barrel. :shruggy:  AND shooting unarmed animals in the wild is not a fair game you Nazi's.

doctor4766

I think they're clay pigeons, not animals in a trap..

He said trap shooting.  That's shooting something already in a trap right ?

[/quote]yes you need a license to hunt and in some cases a hunter safety course each state has there own regulations you have to abide by, seasons for different animals are set by each state as well.

lisiecki1

and you also have to be licensed in most states to carry a concealed weapon.
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

I bet you'd love it, shooting is a fun sport. :2thumbs: As GTX6970 said, owning guns is a right that's given to every American citizen, it's the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution. To buy a gun, you have to pass a background check, to make sure you're not a felon or have a mental illness history & are a citizen. The gun buying rules are different in varying states, with a few states being downright rediculous. We always have the anti-gunner crowd trying to take that right away, but for now, as long as you're not a felon or similar, you can own a gun.

I own & collect guns, mostly handguns. Although I was raised on a farm, I'm not interested in hunting...probably saw too many dead animals as a kid. I prefer to target shoot, or just shoot "stuff"...gallon water jugs, empty propane tanks, old car rims, swinging metal plates, stuff like that. I also recently got into reloading, which is challenging & fun in itself.

Another reason to own a gun is for personal protection. I don't conceal carry (yet), but if someone were to break into my house one night, there's a good chance they'd go outta here wearing an extra hole or six. :icon_smile_wink:

As said, Licenses are required to hunt for anything and will vary with each individual state and usually with the animal your intending to hunt. The largest animal I every went hunting for was dear, although I've never shot one.
But to be honest I haven't bneen hunting in probably over 20 years for anything.
Usually I just go indoor target shooting with the occasional outdoor shooting range when weather permits. And even at that I haven't been target shooting in probably close to 10 years or so now

In the state of Ky you do not have to have a license to own a gun. But if buying new and some cases used guns require a permit to purchase one. Unless you buy used from an individual , then , in most cases, there is no paper trail of any kind.

doctor4766

Thanks for the replies guys.
Actually just heard an ad on the radio that there's a new shooting range opened close by.
I might just have to give it a try.

:haha: :slap:

I've done it a few times with my Remington 1100 12-gauge semi-auto. Only once at a range but I have my own pigeon thrower and a box of pigeons that are out in the shed collecting dust. :icon_smile_blackeye:

Sure. Hunting, self defense, national defense in case the Aussie's try to take over. ;) Guns are just like any other tool. You use them when they're needed.

doctor4766

Don't think 'self defense' would cut it over here.
Only allowed to use equal force to defend yourself... so basicly that means we gotta interview the assailant first before we can decide if we're gonna get out the baseball bat or raid the kitchen drawer before we fight back.

moparsons

In my state(WV) I don't even need a license to hunt, as I am a landowner and can take a certain amount of game each year as long as it is on our farm.

Well, in that case, I guess you just go bury them in the  "outback" somewhere and be done with it if you shoot someone.  Much easier than trying to find a place to bury someonn here in the city! ;)
