I hop in my car this morning to go to work and I start it up and I notice the passenger door is open a little bit. So I reach over and close it and then I notice something missing. My cd's. I had a binder of about 100 cd's and some lowlife took them out of my car while it was parked in my driveway. I know it is my fault for leaving my doors unlocked, but I don't exactly live in Crimeville, USA. I hate people who steal other peoples' property. If I could only find that azzhole....

So please remember to lock your doors so this doesn't happen to you.

Mike

I never used to lock my doors. I live in a small town, with 1/3 of the population being summer tourists.
One morning I found the consoles and glove boxes wide open in our Ram and Caravan. Didn't seem to be anything missing though as I don't keep much in the vehicles.
I installed a motion light and now lock up the vehicles for the night.
It's a annoying feeling to have that happen to you.

It reminds me of John Travolta's line from Pulp Fiction regarding someone keying his Malibu. "It would have been worth him doing it, just to have caught him doing it."

If you lock your doors, you'll just have broken windows in addition to the missing CDs next time.

Sounds like my renters insurance might cover some of the cost. Unfortunately I have a $250 deductible

Thats why I use cameras and flood lights. If the dog dont get'em then the video tape does. Works like a charm, I cought someone a few weeks ago just lookin in my cars at night. I just watched till he tried to touch the door. Then I let the dog out, I didnt know people could run that fast with thier pants hanging around their az.

I used to have an Electrical Contracting business in a part of Honolulu where the tourists would dare not tread.  Space is at a premium over there and I had to park some of the trucks on the street.  I learned quickly that it was cheaper to have the guys take the tools (the ones that the employees hadn't ripped-off yet) and copper wire out of the vans and leave them open.  No more broken windows and messed up doors.  Man I'm glad those days are over.    Bob

I guess one time I forgot to lock the passenger door while I was at VAFB (not a govt registered car, left in visitor center). I cam back with my glove box open, missing glasses, and a note. I was so pissed off, come to find out, the note had a little saying at the bottom that my friends would say... loser friends

Well several  years ago my '89 ram van had a aftermarket security system with a falshing red LED next to the A/C controls, nice installation,. anyhow,.. We had a Perp in the hood working all the parked cars every other month or so. all the cars would get broken into and anything in there would get boosted...  :P
So oneday i go outside to find my glove compart door open and the rear window (fixed) missing, actully it was just leaning up against the hedge,..  :icon_smile_angry:
so what happened was the thief peeled off the weather stripping from my back widow and reached in to open the vans back doors, then went up front and  sliced through ALL the wiring under the dash... so much for my Alarm. As I recall a half dozen other cars got jacked the same night.  :rotz:
my van got busted into on a regular basis every few months usually through the wing window so i seldom left anything in there..  :flame:

Sorry to hear about that. Did that happen over in Dodgeville? I get over there for work quite a bit and have always been a little cautious as I know some of the "locals".

I do make it a habit to lock my doors nearly all the time. So far the only one I have really locked out has been me...twice.   ;D

If they want in your car, they'll get in. I had my Duster parked in the drive, doors locked. They slim-jimmed the door, stole the deck speakers out of the back window. They went for the stereo too but it was such a pain in the ass to get out I guess they gave up. If I'd ever found out who it was I'd probly have gone to jail myself. My cars are like my kids (if I had any) and when somebody screws with 'em like that, lays marks on 'em, whatever, I tend to get very, very volatile. Sorry to hear about the cd's.

well my dad once had a flashlight and a cell phone stolen from his car.... HIS POLICE CAR... i dunno if it was a dare or what but they had balls.

If you rent a vehicle in Hawaii there's a sticker on the vehicles windshield that says "Please Do Not Lock The Doors"

When the kids were younger we took to a theme park - borrowed the brother in laws car - cant remember why- it only had the original aftermarket radio nothing flash - they still broke the rear quarter light to get in to steal it tho.... and help themselves to the packed lunch we had left in the car... bl**dy Cheek!

The best thing you can do is not leave valuables in your car. If they look in and see anything of value you risk getting your car broken into. I have seen cars broken into for pocket change in the console.

In High School I had a 70 Chevelle SS. I painted it myself. It was one of the nicest cars in school at the time. The kids that cut class to go for a smoke, used to go out and sit or lean on my car. They wouldn't do it to some P.O.S. To make a long story short. I hooked up a Model T coil to the body. I did get egged once. But it was worth it. Worked on a dog that used to P on my wheels too. Its easier to hook up now with all the new remotes available. Works better then an alarm.

I gotta remember this one....how did you rig it?

Hot wire from the batt. to the coil. From coil to a switch or remote. From switch to body. You might put an in-line fuse between the battery and the coil. If you don't use a remote and go with a switch. Make sure you mount it on something plastic and out of sight. You don't need a ground who or what ever touches the car will act as a ground. Wait till you see a dog pi$$ on your wheel. The dog that did it to mine would walk WAY around my car and growl at it afterwords.  ;)

I was going to ask about the grounding thing....nice! lol.
