Does the gas pedal go on the carpet pad or does it go on the carpet it self?

One more picture this one shows the gas pedal on the edge of the pad.

68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

I believe the top pic is correct, isnt the purpose of the pad is not to wear out the carpet at the pedal or keep it clean, while ur foot is on the accel pedal?

I have installed carpet in both our 66's and the Daytona....gas pedal ends up like the very first picture at the top
