Can someone post a pic of what the 3rd generation rear swaybars look like? I'm trying to figure out if they are the same as the later Cordoba/Magnums.
I have a couple laying around and I'm not sure what is what anymore

Thanks

Nacho-RT74

this is how the 3rd gens rear sway bar is... Same bar but different plates all depends if springs are isolated or nor from the axle housing.

Just in case you find I'm HURRY NEEDING a pair of plates to isolated springs assembly.

Cool
Mine looks like that bottom one but I don't think I have the plates. Guess I better start looking..

Nacho-RT74

BOTH are exactly the same bar, just the pic angle make it looks straight but is the same bended area in the middle as top pic shows.

Let me know if you find this plate

i have the 73-74 sway bar plates myself NACHO,but,i am using them on my 72 satellite,so i am going to weld a piece of steel in that big hole, and re-drill to fit the smaller sping bolt.
how'd i do that!?!?!?

'CUDA360

Right.. So I need the one with the big spring locator hole for my '74..  Thanks alot guys, I know a ton more on this subject already

Mr_fixit

The bar that BELONGS with nacho's bottom picture is a straight bar.... No offset for the punkin.   Also the straight bar has shorter links. And the spring plates are slightly different,( slightly different offeset) most likely to account for the   iso clamp stuff.   I believe if you use the straight bar ( and links) with the iso clamp brackets on a iso clamp car that the bar sometimes hits the punkin of an 8 3/4.

Nacho-RT74

I have to say that I have seen the bended sway bar on non isolated assemblies so that's why I say about they use the same bar, but is true I can be wrong on that.

Recently I discovered that the rear axle housing pedestal on non isolated assemblies it could be slightly higher that isolated kinds and this ones are lowers to get the same height on rear than earliers once you get joined the springs, isolators, clamps, plate and axle.

I say this because only plates that I found are non isolated plates kind. I thought that I could to weld a piece of steel on to the bar plate ( with a hole to spring locator ) to get it a step higher to fill the iso clamp depression filled and install the plate... After that try to install it and found the sway bar rod "ear" of the plate meets with axle housing :( and makes it impossible to adapt unless I modify it A LOT MORE that just fill the clamp step.

48 Chebbie...just fill the hole maybe it could be not enough and won't guarantee about resistance of the sway bar plate because iso clamps bar plates are not centered on springs

U bolts holes are also located different between both plates since also lower spring clamp is smaller between both assemblies. On iso assemblies the U bolt holes on plates are locater outer ( more separated, or maybe as Mrfixit said "offset" ) from the springs than non iso kind because the iso clamp itself is wider.

Of course about the height also since the iso kind is lower pedestal and of course he iso plate is made to this then if you install this kind on to the non iso assmbly, sway bar will hang probably lower ( more separated ) from the axle because the higher pedestals of the axle to this assemblies.

I don't know either is there is some lenght difference about the sway bar rod and if this will be some difference on assembly.

So if you will install the iso kind on non iso assembly, please don't get damage the plates becasue they can be used to anyone that need them LIKE ME... I already ruined the non iso kind trying to adapt them on iso assembly.

I'll post some pics to show differences on plates once assemblied to get a better explain about this since I'm not sure if I did it good with my english.

Nacho-RT74

This is the non iso plate kind on a closer view... this is the one I found BEFORE I ruin it cutting and welding.

As shadows shows the axle pedestal sits closer to the U bolts holes than the iso kind posted above by me. Depression to fit on iso clamp on isolated kind plate won't make you possible sit the pedestal axle/plate assembly, closer to match with lower clamp

Only solution could it be elongate the holes like the second one on this reply

Nacho-RT74

here are some graphic about that I THINK is differences on plates and axle pedestals height beside the holes and centered position of plates over springs.

The green box is what I have right now problems to fit the non iso kind modified on to the iso assembly. because the probably height difference on pedestals to make the same ride height on rear to both kinds of assemblies. Plate meets with axle on that area.

I don't really now for sure if the problem is becasue plates are different height also OR the plate bended area to bolt the bar rod is toward to front to doesn't meet with axle

On those days I didn't know every difference about this assemblies... and still don't know since I don't have both to compare... I'm just guessing

OK dumb question time...

Why not just mig a tab on the end of a non swaybar spring plate ?

A real nice chunk of 3/8 steel with a hole drilled in it for the
I know it's not original for shows but it should work for the street

Mr_fixit

Don't forget 73, 74, 75   b bodies use the same plates. I'll have to check see if I have any I don't need.
