Found some remnants of color there when cleaning the compressor  up but couldn't get them to show in pictures , it's gloss yellow out of a rattle can.applied with a simple 1" square piece of foam.  I'll have to ck on actual color name.

latch pieces are black zinc,They are wet from the oil coating that hasn't been cleaned off yet. The popup spring is a dark grey phosphate.

Speedo cable showed up yesterday as well.

Nice I like the technique for the yellow.  I have seen it on the Hoffman Coronet before as well.

Really?   Black for the hood latch assy?  Didnt know that one!  honestly never really looked....always had mine sprayed up with Eastwoods Detail Gray :slap:   i have it out now so it might be a good time to recolor it.
Dont have any "black zinc"  But I do have the Eastwood Zinc Phosphate...same as I used for the spring...either that or their UnderHood Black.....I guess it will have to do! ;)

To be completely honest ,,,,,Hood latch is generally a dark brownish red in color and can be appear almost black. So, is it 100%? No ,,,,
My plater is unable to do the correct dark browinsh red color .
but then again this car is not going to be a trailer queen either

Bill is it all that color?   the lever & rod as well?

Well, I'm back on it for the time being.
Engine will be primed for prestart ck over  in the morning.

Underhood is all wired and ready , Dist is now done and goes in tomorrow morning.

With no issues it'll be running tomorrow afternoon and able to pull itself out of the garage by weeks end.

Dist went from this ----

gtx6970

One NOS dist cap, rotor, points and condensor, and an  NOS vacuum advance. Added the smaller advance springs fora quicker advance rate.
I tore it all the way down to nothing but a shell. Cleaned all the gunk out of it( kind of reminded me of play sand ) Lubed everything and got it back together today.

gtx6970

Original nasty looking air cleaner is also done.

Looks great Bill....regarding the alternator...do you have another small spacer in front of the upper bracket for the long bolt?  hard to tell in the pic you posted above.
I still dont think I have the correct combo of spacers

I'll ck tomorrow afternoon.
I think the upper A shaped bracket isn't mint, I'm actually not sure if it's suppoed to be perfectly flat or not ,  and I couldn't come up with a better replacement at the time of install( still looking though )

There was a great deal of sand under the carpet as well.

It is/was a California car.  It was purchased new in Bakersfield.  Service records show a 5 year stint in San Fran.
They also show high school/college age sisters as primary drivers, so I'm sure it made it's way to the beach a few times.  So maybe...... :shruggy:

Beach, High School / college girls and fast cars, not a bad combination if you ask me

one way or the other it runs tomorrow. got it primed and ready to go and found it was missing the oil pump / dist drive . new one  should be here in the am.

Ray, stay close to the phone

The icing on the cake is they are both now Doctors (as per my internet stalking).

Installed a new dist / oil pump drive shaft today. Filled it up with 5 qts of 10-w30 , and prelubed the crap out of it, including while spinning it by hand

And I wanted to jump for joy.,with absolute minimul effort , It started on the 1st revolution with the key on. Didn't have to monkey with the dist, carb, wiring , NOTHING.

I had it running with NO issues, NO leaks, and with exception to an exhaust leak at the headpipe to manifold , even No noises. not a lifter or piston noise to be heard anywhere. Owner was concerned . And given the fact I didnt build it,I was maybe just a little bit .

But ,,,,,,,for the 1st time in a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time it lives.
Soon as it started , I bumped it up on fast idle, and  let it run maybe 15-20 minutes. Didnt try to get hot, and had just over 60 lbs of oil pressure on high idle to break in the cam.

Sounds really good, at roughly 800 rpm in neutral it sounds a lot like a stock cam. But it's  just the old H-pipe and mufflers with no tailpipes till I can get it to the exhaust shop . Buddy of mine is a mgr of a midas and he says he  replicate the factory H-pipe exhaust in 2.5" pipe from manifold to tips.

stay tuned

Gotta get the brakes bled this weekend , fill up the trans , and maybe pull it out of the garage under it's own power by the 1st of the week

Bill that car is looking great. One of these days I'll break down and actually go through my car this way too.

gtx6970

Well, I got the disc brake conversion done. Using newer rear mounted F-body slider calipers turned into something of a job. But , it's all on there and seems to clear everything with no problems so far.

Originally, it is a Bendix disc brake car, but with the traveling this car has in it's future. Going to modern more easily accesable brake parts is, in my mind , an upgrade and a good idea.

Driveshaft is done , cleaned up , painted and 2 new U-joints installed and now in the car. Put some trans fluid in and it was time to see if the trans works.  I have 3 forward gears and 1 reverse so thats a good thing.

A buddy of mine is supposed to stop by maybe tomorrow night and we'll get the brakes bled and hopefully pull it out under it's own power .

I'll post some new pics maybe tomorrow afternoon.

gtx6970

For the 1st time ,,,, in a long time. It pulled itself out of the garage under it's own power. I call that ,,progress.
