Yes!

Your first video Austin is where the Pony Express Open Road Race ends. I've filled up in Austin for the return run many times. The corner that you make at the end of the video (turning right) to head to Battle Mountain is where the Satellite cop car rolls over in the movie. I stopped and looked for car parts there to see if I could come up with a movie memento, but .... no such luck.

Hope you enjoyed the drive. Just as indicated in the movie, that is some of the most desolate country in the USA.

Kowalski rules.

"Vanishing Point" is one of the few Hollywood musclear shows I love as much as "Dukes of Hazzard".

Thanks for the videos. Such a great film. I am planning to visit a few of the other places in the film this summer.

I know this question wasn't directed at me, but I think the remake was nothing like the original. It is good(ish) in its own ways, but can't even compare in my opinion.

Except for the 68 charger scenes. Those scenes made the movie for me. :2thumbs:

The remake was a low budget 1990s TV movie.  No better and no worse.  It ditched the higher artsy aspirations of the original for a more normal plotline.

That movie is a huge part of you I am today, car loving buff wise.  I watched it in a new 1970 Toronado GT 455ci with my buddy one cold winter day at a Drive in theater.  remember those?  I remember that movie and the coolness of that white Challenger like it was yesterday.  Those were the days!!
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Wow I can't stand Vanishing Point.
Between the horrible acting and the idiot blabbing all that ridiculous nonsense on the radio, I couldn't watch it all the way through.
I did see the remake and thought it was at least watchable. The only thing any good in those two movie's are the car chases, oh and the woman on the motorcycle.

well they drove the cars at something like 20-40 miles an hour in the new one...at least it looked like that----  in the original it looks like its going fast.

Yeah I can't watch it all the way through today either.  BUT!  back then it was cool.  What I remember most is the tire tracks through the sand, spinning all over the place, the engine roar etc......

Agreed.

Car chase footage is practically always speeded up a little bit in Hollywood, regardless of whether it's a new movie or an old one.  But even so, the original "Vanishing Point" had those cars going pretty damn fast.

This will get a mixed response from the members, but here goes.......
I LOVED the first Vanishing Point. I was born after the whole hippie/anti-establishment era had run its course, but I still identified with Kowalski. Sure, the movie had a few slow points, but what movie didn't?
Bullitt on the other hand..... My god, besides the car chase, that movie sucked ass. I was more entertained watching the Lifetime network. Even the car chase, which always gets top billing in any list of top movie car chases, wasn't that great in comparison to movies made since. It may have broke new ground in 1968, but I skip it when it is on TV.
