Help in Texas on a '68 Charger R/T

Hi gang,
Is there anyone here in Texas that would be kind enough to look at a blue '68 Charger R/T for me near Austin at Texas Toy Box?  I live in southern California.  I have attached a link to the car on their website.  Looks great in pictures, but you never know unless you see it in person or drive it.  I would truly appreciate someone who is willing to go there for me.  I honestly would pay for your time and gas money for your services.  I am an honest guy and I can send you money through Paypal or send you a check.  If I fail to pay you, you can write bad things about me all you want...

Hopefully, this link works... it would be the '68 Charger R/T, blue with white vinyl top.

Thank you in advance.

Just click on the "Home" button on the forum, from there type in Texas Toy Box into the search bar on the upper right hand corner...youll get all the info you need, after reading you probably will do business elsewhere. For one look at the cars for sale on this forum, youll prob get a great deal from an honest seller.

I took your advice and did a search and read quite a bit about them just now.  Wow, sounds like a big crook who is hiding something to say the least.  Definitely seems like he wants people to buy sight-unseen, especially likes the buyers who are not able to make a trip to see the cars in person... but, man this blue one definitely looks nice, though!!

Keep looking and don't be in a hurry. And no matter what have someone knowledgeable look at it before you buy. Post a wanted ad here, and keep your eyes open. Look on EBay, Craigslist, etc.; the members here pretty much find all that are available and advertised and can help direct you.

Their sales strategy :eek2:
They love to sell overseas.
Good luck with the search!

Use the forum search for 'texas toy box' and you'll find that they are not rated very highly. I wouldn't buy anything I couldn't inspect very carefully myself, or another trusted member.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing.  :scratchchin:

Not that I am in any way trying to promote this place but they do consignments so if they didn't get their grubby mitts into "restoring" it then it might not be a total trash bucket. I say that if you are really interested in the car then as long as you do your due diligence you should be fine. Get high res pics of all the common trouble spots, spend time on the phone. If that seems to check out then have someone go look at it for you and then finally fly out and buy it in person. For what they are going to charge you for that car they should be cool with all of it. If they aren't then move on because they are trying to hide something. Don't fall for the "someone else is coming tomorrow" line to get you to skip steps.

Good luck and don't get discouraged as it can be a long and frustrating process.  :2thumbs:

I believe I remember that car at the Ardmore, OK National TDC meet some time ago. It stands out for it was the same color combination as my former '68 Hemi Charger R/T, LL1 with white interior. It struck me as a decent car then. It's been a LONG time though. Depending on the price, it'll dictate whether it's worth the asking price...... How much are they asking? Doesn't have a price yet.....

Where is it? Hutto? It's in between San Antonio and Austin off I-35 if I'm not mistaken. Maybe someone here from San Antonio or Austin can swing by..

Good luck...

Dean P,

I live in West Texas, and used to go to Austin quite a bit on business.  I do not know what sort of reputation Texas Toys Box has now, but it used to be very, very shady.  I might also add that perspective came from not only prospective customers and Moparites in that area, but from law enforcement authorities.

As a point in fact, I am a retired peace officer.  During one of my trips to the Austin area, I perchance drove by their location and stopped in to see what they had on the lot.  I was in uniform, and in a marked unit.

Have you ever seen what happens in the seedy side of town where you step into a room and turn the light on?  When all the resident cockroaches go scurrying for any available corner or cover?  Need I say anymore?

Again, that was about six or seven years ago.  I can not see how they could have stayed in business legitimately over that amount of time unless they went through a major shakeup.  Or something else is going on.

As one news organization is fond of saying; "We report, you decide".

May God bless America,

Thanks for sharing your experience.  I bet their office was just an old-fashion fold-up table and chairs and ready to skip town at a drop of a hat.  I will definitely keep my guard up.

Well, I just called there and spoke with a Sandy and she said Ray is out of town for a couple days, but will call me back.  She didn't know any more details about this car.  I told her I wanted to send someone to inspect it in person and she said that shouldn't be a problem, BUT she also said that they hardly have anyone look at their cars because they do a lot of out of state sales.

I spoke with Roy and he's selling it on consignment.  Supposedly, the guy already turned down $38K, he's looking to get at least in the low $40s range... what a rip-off!!!!  It's a NOM car, they must still be living in 2005.  I even told him that too.  But, he was very nice over the phone.

bull

It looks like Kevin's car but his doesn't have R/T emblems.

It definitely is LL1 (at least it's an original LL1-car). I spoke the, maybe current-then owner, way back when. We contacted each other one time when I still had my LL1 hemi '68....

Car def looks like it was someones on here, will take a gander when I get home.

PatrickPeeters

If TTB restored it, be somewhat careful and expect less. (I've bought a car restored by them)
If someone does know the car and it's history is known, only the right price will be holding you back.

Good luck Patrick
