steering column

Ok, so I want to remove the column for paint. Where the shaft goes into steering box I see a roll pin to remove. My question is can I remove the roll pin from either side or does it come out one way only. I can see the top of the hole and drive it down, but I cant see the bottom due to headers to drive it out from the bottom.

So I took the pin out and all bolts are loose and the steering column can pull back except the column shift linkage is still on. How does this come off. I see two small bolts holding in some white spacer. If I take these bolts out will the linkage come loose and let the shaft slide thru it?
