AC compressor swap - evaporator??

Hey everyone,

I'm updating the AC compressor on a 71 to a Sanden 508, and also replacing the condensor and drier.  I can build my own lines, so no problems there; but wondering about using the original Evaporator (part under the dash).  I can switch to a Vintage Air unit, but would like to keep the original evaporator and controls if possible.

I've seen the newer Sanden 508 compressors on other cars, but never looked closer to see what else was different.

Goal is to have cold air and use R134 refrigerant.  Anyone done this and can offer any advice?  Thanks!

When using the Sanden compressor with the original evaporator you need to add a compressor de-clutching control, Vintage Air and others have them. The control has a capillary tube that is incertyed into the evaporator core and is wired into the clutch circuit.

This is required because the original system uses an EPR valve in the RV2 compressor to regulate the evaporator core instead of a de-clutcher...the Sanden has no internal EPR valve.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
